20 Greatest Red Wings (#6)

1) Gordie Howe 52%
2) Steve Yzerman 78%
3) Nicklas Lidstrom 86%
4) Ted Lindsay 39%
5) Terry Sawchuk 33% (Tiebreaker 52%)

Who is your vote for the 6th greatest Red Wing ever?

Big Poppa Puck 11-05-2012 11:33 PM

Delvecchio this round. I'll probably vote for Fedorov next round.

Peter Tosh 11-06-2012 05:30 AM

97 total playoff points with 19 in 22 games in '98 as highlight, four cups, 1000+ games played and 500+ regular season points as a career Red Wing. Add Homer!

SoupNazi 11-06-2012 06:31 AM

Federov.

Add Hudler.

Should probably be Red Kelly actually. The reason the norris trophy was invented and easily a top 10 dman all time, probably around 7.

Too many young people on here who dont know their history are voting for Fedorov over guys who are more deserving

No. I wasn't.

But thanks for the veiled trolling accusations.

newfy 11-06-2012 03:31 PM

This poll just became a joke, someone go post whose better all time Kelly or Fedorov on the history board and you would get laughed at

PierreMcGuire* 11-06-2012 03:40 PM

Fedorov.

The Zetterberg Era 11-06-2012 03:57 PM

Delvecchio again, add John Ogrodnick

sarcastro 11-06-2012 06:22 PM

Tempted to vote for Shanny but I will appease the jilted Fedorov voters from poll #5...

Fedorov is completely a reasonable selection; only seven players outscored him during his career, and he was as good defensively as he was offensively - if not better. He was the best player on the best team in the 1990s.

Kelly was a dominant defenseman and sometimes forward for the Wings who played a strong two-way game, and it's perfectly valid IMO to rank him as high as 4th or as low as 7th on a "best Wings" list.

The history board that's filled with 80 year-old posters who all watched Kelly play, right? :)

History board is the second lamest board on hfboards.

Henkka 11-07-2012 04:24 PM

Now we have the 1st line. :)

Ted Lindsay - Steve Yzerman - Gordie Howe
Nicklas Lidström - Sergei Fedorov
Terry Sawchuk

Scotty Bowman puts Fedorov to play as a defenceman. ;)

I am a great Red Kelly fan. I like Feds a bit better - hard to compare the eras but Sergei was so dynamic. Like Kelly, Ullman & OGRODNICK over Delvechio...don't know, never saw Aurie, Syd Howe, or Goodfellow but heard they were great too

The history board is full of people who follow the history of hockey and put good research into their rankings. They definitely know better then what most of what us do about the history of the game and I've learned a lot since posting there.

These guys do their research, have Kelly top 20 all time and Fedorov isnt in the top 70.

What did Fedorov really do? His peak was amazing, but he was more of a consistent 60ish point 2 way center who left you wanting more. He played great in the playoffs. Hes definitel yup there in all time wings, but not better then a borderline top 5 dman all time

waltdetroit 11-07-2012 06:20 PM

its a disgrace Kelly isnt hanging from the rafters

That I agree with, but a big part of his legacy also involves Toronto. Fedorov has the MVP and four straight 20 point playoff seasons. The second one being something nobody except him has ever done in NHL history. I think it is fair for people to put him over Kelly in just a Red Wings poll. What I don't think is fair is that both should have banners. It is disgraceful that Kelly doesn't have one and it will be just as bad if Fedorov never goes up as a retired number.

waltdetroit 11-07-2012 06:34 PM

Amen

They can do all the research they want. But research doesn't do anything about the subjectivity that exists when comparing different eras. And it doesn't prevent a lot of them from being blowhards who think they know the game better than they actually do. I've played the sport my entire life, I've coached it, I watched all of Fedorov's career, and I'm fairly familiar with how the sport was played in previous eras. I don't need people who are less familiar with the game than myself to tell me who ranks ahead of whom from different eras, just because they did a bunch of google searches. Please.

And Red Kelly a borderline top-5 defensemen of all-time? Heh. Those are some pretty expansive borders.

Board of Hockey,

It used to be a haven for people who thought they were really smart about sports economics...which I thought was pretty silly.

Now it's turned into a really horrid, mob-mentality board...

Post number #1. PA are retards. --- 10 people agree.
Post number #2. NHL owners are retards -- 5 point infraction.
