Talk about Hawks Draft positions

Here is a short list of positions (overall draft postion) between #1 and #100 the Hawks never drafted a player
17
47
51
55
65
72
80
83
84
100

The Draft Position the Hawks used most as a draft pick is #54 overall. Have had this pick 7 times. Next is 3 tied with 6 times

was bored and wanted more talk going on about different topics. I miss NHL hockey. Seeing a ****ing slow Mark Bell in Germany just isn't the same. Jamie Benn is a great player to watch. Won the last game for his team on his own against my team

coldsteelonice84 11-06-2012 06:53 AM

I wonder if a weird team will get no. 1 overall.

UsernameWasTaken 11-06-2012 07:23 AM

Just as long as it's not the Oilers...:shakehead

xX Hot Fuss 11-06-2012 09:09 AM

That would be hilarious. Especially since they'd still NOT draft a dman

I wouldn't be shocked if he went over MacKinnon. They're both franchise players.

Hawkaholic 11-06-2012 12:09 PM

Can't wait for the draft this year, so many good players available in the 1st round. My hope is we draft a big Dman (like Zadorov), a goalie (like Fucale), or a big C (like Horvat)

ChiGuySez 11-06-2012 01:44 PM

Im not liking Frucals numbers hes posting this year plus hes only 6'. JMO but I think hes being hugely overrated and will drop by draft day. Dont like Zadorov either. Not among my picks at this point.

Hawks better not mess up with the #1 pick seeings how theres no #2 or #3.

hawksfan50 11-06-2012 02:13 PM

Let me ask-what is the Hawks biggest NEED?

OBVIOUSLY ---goaltending--- since both present and pipeline is so mediocre..FUCALE so far has not lived up to his hype (mediocre save%) -BUT there is hope: SPENCER MARTIN 6'2 190 .941 save% 1.90 GAA Mississauga Steelheads OHL ...

ChiGuySez 11-06-2012 02:26 PM

Yeah, Ive noticed Spencer Martins numbers. Far better than Frucales. In fact there are several goalies from the various leagues with far better numbers.

Yandle Bars has a nice spread sheet going in the prospects forum with updated numbers.

Hawkaholic 11-06-2012 04:32 PM

If we go based off of numbers, Quick would of never made the NHL.

Fucale has been the best goalie prospect hands down for over a year now.
He set a wins record for a 16 year old rookie in the Q last year.
His numbers got even better in the post season.

He will be the top goalie picked, and is probably slated to be a better goalie than Subban or any other goalie not named Vasilevski drafted last year.

xX Hot Fuss 11-06-2012 04:45 PM

Drafted Fucale in my GM connected league with the hawks

DisgruntledHawkFan 11-06-2012 04:46 PM

This is hockey, not football. You never, ever draft by need.

ChiGuySez 11-06-2012 04:56 PM

Quick posted a .953 save% previous to his draft year in '05. Dont see Frucale doing that.

...and he had a 905sv% with a 2.79gaa in the ECHL a couple of years after the draft.

Numbers are the last thing you go by when evaluating a goalie.

Me personally, Id be more happy had the Hawks drafted John Gibson. Another lost opportunity for the Hawks draft brain trust.

Our depth is good enough to draft a need, and not drafting based off of a need is exactly why we have no goalie depth in our system.

This draft is going to produce a lot of NHL ready players, we dont need any more TT's or Leddys, we need big physical/offensive players, so draft them in this draft.

The hawks should of drafted a lot of players, hindsight is 20/20.

DisgruntledHawkFan 11-06-2012 05:09 PM

Goalie depth isn't an issue when so many talented youngsters are moved for nothing because there buried behind starters/proven backups in the AHL.

I also have a personal philosophy that drafting a tender before the fourth round is a mistake.

I don't know, seems like there isn't much available right now in terms of goalies being available on the cheap.

Drafting a goalie before the 4th round has worked out for quite a few teams, but not worked for others. When a goalie like Fucale comes around, its worth the risk. We should of drafted Vasilevski last year.

I disagree. When a player as highly rated as TT was falls to you in the draft, it's never a bad idea to take them, regardless of your needs.

I'm not against getting Fucale this year, but I also don't know enough about the defensemen that will be available in the mid to late first round (where I'm expecting us to pick).

coldsteelonice84 11-06-2012 05:26 PM

Mac and Whitney look good, now is the time to sign a good foreign goalie, the lockout will provide good scouting.

DisgruntledHawkFan 11-06-2012 05:38 PM

We got Whitney in the seventh round. There just isn't the payoff for starting goalies at the pick. The ratio of starters brought up by the team they're currently starting for to forwards/defenseman has to be way different.

I agree with that. I initially wanted us to draft a goalie - but agree that in light of Teuvo being available he was the right pick to make.

I'd thought a goalie first round would be good this year if we were picking 20 or later - but i forgot we didn't have a 2nd or 3rd. B/c of that, I think taking a goalie in the 1st is a bad idea.
