Oldest Minor Pro Player
Anyone know the answers to these questions:. Who is currently the oldest player in any minor pro league? What is the record for most minor league games played and most career points?
|
Suggest you contact each league and ask. :D
See stickied thread for league websites. |
There are a lot of EBugs in their late 30s-40's that get signed but never play. In the ECHL the oldest everyday player is Kory Karlander for the Kalamazoo Wings at 40 years old.
Most ECHL Points all time is Louis Dumont at 890. Most ECHL Goals of all time is Wes Goldie at 370. Goldie retired after the 11-12 season Most ECHL Games played Cam Brown at 789 Active All Time Leaders Goals Randy Rowe- 225 Games Sam Ftorek-645 Points- Randy Rowe- 497 *According to Hockeydb.com as of 11/8/2012 |
Kory Karlander of the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL is 40. He's the oldest of whom I'm aware. I don't count Canadien Senior Leagues as professional.
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...y.php?pid=2644 Robin Bouchard is the career goal scoring leader in the minors. I don't know who has the most points off the top of my head. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=13133 |

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=38001 The CHL's oldest player is 39 year old Brad Smyth, who previously played for 5 teams in the NHL. SPHL's oldest player is Brett Hammond who is 31 years old FHL's oldest player is Kelly Miller. Not to be confused with the Rangers' draft pick, the Kelly Miller that plays for the Danbury Whalers is 33 years old. also learned while doing this search that Paul Mara is playing in Ontario (ECHL) after sitting out the entire 2011-12 season. |
Chris Chelios played for the Chicago Wolves when he was 48. That is pretty outstanding. I'm hoping to make it to my 30s.

Trevor Jobe and Joe Burton also both put up some big numbers too. |
Reached out to my PHPA contact who provides the following:

Tony Hand is still going at age 45. He only has one goal this season, but he also has 28 assists in 19 games which is leading the EPIHL. |
Publicity stunt or not, Gordie Howe played for the Detroit Vipers of the IHL at age 69. I would think he technically owns the record for oldest minor pro player.
I've never quite figured out why Gordie Howe would agree to do that though. From what I know of Gordie, he wasn't the hugely egotistical type who'd sign a deal simply for the publicity of both playing at age 69 and playing in 6 consecutive decades. Since it was a one-game deal with the Vipers, he shouldn't have been under any illusions that he was going to stick around with the team. So I doubt he signed the deal under the impression it was as a "try-out." |

This is from a Milwaukee fan who hates the Wolves. |

I've only seen him once so far this season and he looked only a tiny fraction of his former self, he missed a lot of passes which went for icing and they weren't much better in the offensive zone either. So it's pretty scary that he's still putting up those numbers. |
