Don't like it, don't watch it.

I miss this attitude from Vince McMahon. The don't like it, don't watch it attitude. I came across this video on YouTube of "Pro Wrestling's Hold on America" which was made in February 1999 in the midst of the Attitude Era. I'll only post the first two parts because the rest talk about steroids and death in professional wrestling, but if you want to watch those parts, they're in the related videos section.

I really miss that attitude from Vince McMahon. Now he just bends over for the public.

I especially loved when the reporter was showing Vince a clip from his television show of Mark Henry with a transvestite, and Vince McMahon just laughed his face.

ColePens 11-08-2012 08:17 AM

I'd rather see that mentality, but now people who loved wrestling stopped watching. And it's for people who don't watch it but have an opinion that it should be PG.

How strange is that? The people *****ing about it aren't bringing cash in.

Dean Ambrose 11-08-2012 08:20 AM

and that's what I hope Vince realizes.

I hope now that this political business with Linda seems done for good (at least until 2014), I think best case scenario would be the WWE stock price dropping at an alarming rate (right now it's at 8.03, I think 6.5 would be low enough) to the point that Vince McMahon is forced to buy back his shares and privatize the company again. Then, he won't have to please any shareholders and can do whatever he wants with the company to make it a booming industry again.

Yep, and the main demographic is "supposedly" males 18-34. Now they're trying to attract kids and (presumably) females too I guess, all the while alienating their main demographic. Go figure.

Crimson Skorpion 11-08-2012 08:53 AM

Am I the only person that thinks he STILL has the same "don't like it, don't watch it" attitude?

1999: "Don't like it, don't watch it. I'm going to put out the best damn product possible and I don't care what people say."

2012: "Don't like it, don't watch it. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CHILDREN! MY MAIN DEMOGRAPHIC OF 18-34 CAN GO **** THEMSELVES! IT'S ALL ABOUT CHILDREN! OH, YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING? I'm sorry, we'll fix that. :("

having their flagship show on a school night from 8-11pm doesnt make much sense either if they're gearing the show towards kids. Most of those kids are in bed by then

Don't like it? On behlaf of the entire WWE, superstars and roster, we would like to formally apologize. God bless America.

Morozov 11-09-2012 04:04 AM

Ironically this forum is full of people who for the most part do nothing but hate on it yet continue to watch it.

you watch something your whole life you cant just stop out of the blue but that doesn't mean the show isn't ****

One Man Rock Band 11-09-2012 09:21 AM

WWE was decent for a couple years, but I'm sick of it now. They just don't create new stars, the tag division is still weak (although getting better), the secondary titles mean nothing because the midcarders barely get any promo time - even a backstage segment here or there would be nice.

TNA has been really good lately though, after being crap for so long since like 2009.

Axman 11-09-2012 11:50 AM

It's hardly as good as it once was but I'm still entertained by it.

Basically this. I see it as a player that showed you flashes of brillance that kept you on the edege of your seat in the past and now you hope that they are just in a slump and will break out of their funk soon and when they do you want to be able to say you were there.

Part of that was a undiagnosed injury. They had to have reconstrutive surgery 4 years ago and they are still not fully rehabilitated. They will be back at 100% soon.

Six years ago they had a mini-boom throughout ALL of 2006. The ratings were the highest they had been since 2002 with Edge's rise to the top, John Cena and Batista as #1/#2 and Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, etc. all still full timers. It was in 2007 after the Chris Benoit double murder/suicide, the injuries that completely decimated the WWE roster on Raw and Smackdown and the steroid scandal that completely killed any momentum WWE had going, and it led us here.

Personally, I watch out of hope that something good is going to happen. I remember there was a short stint from the week Edge retired - late June that I didn't watch because I had no reason to. Edge had retired and I was getting bored. I happened to watch Roulette night and watch CM Punk's worked shoot and I started watching every week again.
