Who Makes the HHOF?

Out of the guys currently playing, who makes the Hall?

Crosby
Ovechkin
Malkin
Datsyuk
Stamkos
St.Louis
Selanne
Iginla
Alfredsson
The Sedins
Thornton
Perry
Getzlaf

Brodeur
Luongo
Lundqvist

Please bring up any other guys I missed, but would any of these guys make the hall? Would all of them?

King Woodballs 11-10-2012 07:01 AM

Selanne
Iggy
Alfy
Brodeur
Are locks

Maybe thonton & st louis
They are on the bubble for me

The Saw Is the Law 11-10-2012 07:19 AM

So no current dman goes to the hall?

Chara? Weber? Pronger is a lock but seems like he isn't playing anymore...

JayRosehillforMVP 11-10-2012 07:21 AM

You missed Jagr.

Besides the old guys, I'd say Crosby, Malkin, and Datsyuk are locks. Ovi, and Stamkos are up in the air, but both have good chances. Fingers crossed for Giroux. No idea how Lundqvist and Weber rank among HHOF goalies and d-men.

Chara's a lock.

DaveG 11-10-2012 08:19 AM

Locks: Iginla, Selanne, Brodeur, Jagr
Good Chance: St Louis, Thornton, Alfredsson, Kovalchuk
Too Early to Tell: Lundqvist, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Stamkos, Perry, Getzlaf

The Sedins, Datsyuk, and Luongo all have a good bit of work to do and not a lot of time to do it. Datsyuk needs to get back to being that 70+ point guy which shouldn't be too hard if he can stay healthy. The Sedins and Luongo need some post-season success, and Luongo needs at least one Vezina as well.

Chara and Pronger are locks for the hall.

Eric Staal, Weber, Keith, Doughty in the Too Early to Tell category.

Izzy 11-10-2012 08:24 AM

I don't see Datsyuk making it because of his point totals. He is more skilled and a more valuable player than a few people who will definitely make it though.

I for sure hope he gets in.

Being a st louis fan ,iam sure him getting in sooner than later would be a good thing :naughty:

Probably Not : Luongo, Datsyuk

FishManSam 11-10-2012 10:04 AM

Crosby
Ovechkin
Malkin
Stamkos
Selanne

I love him but him playing in the dead puck era hurt his numbers,he was for a little while one of the top 3 forwards in the game .I dont know if it will be enough to get him in unfortunatly

Pretty good list ,maybe alfie ??

revolverjgw 11-10-2012 10:17 AM

How does Iginla keep getting "locks" while Thornton gets "maybes"? Thornton will have more points, more playoff points, the Hart, better scoring finishes, those two insane assist seasons, the same championships (and lack of the key one), etc. And right now he's better all-around too. If Iginla's a lock (he is), Thornton is too.

And so is St. Louis

PaulSedin 11-10-2012 10:33 AM

no Hossa ? he has had a great career and will soon have 1000 points

ESH 11-10-2012 10:46 AM

I think the guys that are locks for the hall by the end of their careers, unless something happens, are:
Teemu Selanne
Zdeno Chara
Jarome Iginla
Nicklas Lidstrom
Pavel Datsyuk
Martin Brodeur
Ilya Kovalchuk
Sidney Crosby
Evgeni Malkin
Chris Pronger
Joe Thornton
Steven Stamkos
Alexander Ovechkin

Guys like Alfredsson, St. Louis, Thomas, Lundqvist, Sedins, Luongo, maybe Kiprusoff, are all on the edge for me.

And there are always guys who could make it to the hall eventually, depending on how their careers turn out. I think if Weber and Karlsson continue their level of play for awhile, they'll make it, maybe Giroux, Rinne, Tavares, Staal, Perry, Getzlaf, Spezza, Hossa, Toews, Backstrom, Doughty, Pietrangelo.

Bolded will make the hof

NHLsnipers 11-10-2012 10:53 AM

Too early, but locks if they continue on any pace close to what they've done
Crosby
Ovechkin
Malkin

Basically locks eventually

Selanne
Sedins
Brodeur
Lundqvist
Selanne
Iginla
Alfredsson - Loyalty to one team and captain for so long gets him in
Jagr

Outside (For some, they need a championship or two to lock them in)

Datsyuk
St. Louis
Stamkos
Thornton
Kovalchuk
Perry
Getzlaf
Luongo
Zetterberg
Hossa
Gaborik
Briere
Staal
Nash

That many players from that list will not make it.

Elever 11-10-2012 11:10 AM

I would say that each and every one of those players is good enough and deserves to be in the HOF. Getzlaf is the only one I see there who hasn't won personal trophies or been a huge star for very long and his declining stats are a concnern but if they go back up then he should go back in. Atm Kiprusoff has been the best goalie in the past decade in the world but we'll probably say that about Lundqvist within a few yrs and he's finally gotten a Vezina to back it up. There are probably more deserving candidates atm like Spezza, Gaborik, Zetterberg, and Kovalchuk (maybe Getzlaf will surpass Spezza).

The unfortunate part though is that today's HOF requirements are too stringent. Even Lindros and Fleury can't get in and some of these guys above might not even have long enough careers to get in. The only way all these guys get in is if they change their stupid 4 max NHL player per year criteria.

Obviously Chara and Weber based on how they're playing should get in. Chara is arguably the toughest dman to ever play against (some history fan boy will say Eddie Shore or someone who might have been good for his time but is he really any tougher to play against than even an avg to good dman today like Adam Foote?) . And both Chara and Weber have been just as no better than Lidstrom for the past 2 seasons (I don't think Lidstrom deserved the Norris in '11).

Hammer Time 11-10-2012 12:52 PM

Locks:
Jagr - 5x Art Ross, 8x NHL All-Star Team, 2x Stanley Cup
Malkin - 2x Art Ross, Hart, Cup, Conn Smythe, 3x NHL All-Star Team
Thornton - Hart, regular-season points leader since 2000, 3x NHL All-Star Team
St. Louis - Art Ross, Hart, Cup, 4x NHL All-Star Team
Iginla - Art Ross, 4x NHL All-Star Team
Selanne - 663 goals, 6x NHL All-Star Team
Pronger - Hart, Norris, Cup, 4x NHL All-Star Team. 3 Conn Smythe-worthy performances post-lockout.
Chara - Norris, Cup, 6x NHL All-Star Team
Brodeur - 4x Vezina, 3x Stanley Cup, Team Canada starter in 4 best-on-best tournaments.

Probably:
Crosby - He really deserves to be in already, but his injury history could keep him out. 1 more healthy, high-scoring season should make him a lock.
Ovechkin - His last season was disappointing, but he does have 2 Harts already, which is normally more than enough to get in the Hall. If he can just remain a point-per-game player for a few more seasons he'll be a lock.
Thomas - 2x Vezina, Cup, Conn Smythe. Despite his short career, that should get him in.
Kovalchuk - 400+ goals already, over a point per game for his career.
Alfredsson - 1000+ points. Doesn't have a Cup but he sure deserved one with his 2007 playoff play.

Maybe:
H. Sedin - Hart, Art Ross. Playoff record, and the fact that he was a late bloomer, could hold him back. Either a few more years of point-per-game production (with his durability, that shouldn't be hard), or a great playoff run leading to a Cup, should get him in.
D. Sedin - similar to Henrik, but he doesn't have the Hart.
Datsyuk - had a great peak from 2007-2009 when he was arguably equal with Crosby. His 3 Selkes should help his case a lot too. 1 more Cup or another few years of point-per-game play should get him in.
Zetterberg - wasn't great for long enough. But being two years younger than Datsyuk he has more time to build a solid resume.
Hossa - 429 goals so far in his career. Was never a dominant player, but if he can keep up his consistent play for a few more years, he should be in as a compiler. His great defensive game should also help him.
Luongo - he has all the stats. The only knock is his playoff failings. One great Cup run should be enough to get him in.
Kiprusoff - not making it to the NHL until age 28 really hurts, but from 2004-2006 he was probably the best goalie in the world (Vezina, World Cup silver, and a great playoff run with the Flames).
Lundqvist - Vezina, and one of the most consistent post-lockout goalies. A Stanley Cup, or a few more seasons of strong play, should get him in.

Longshots:
Gaborik - injured often, playoff record isn't good
Miller - needs a few more Vezina-quality seasons.

Save the emoticons and condescension and tell me where I said they weren't deserving. You won't find it. I said too early and I stand by it. Answer me this, how many players over the last 30 have retired as young as those 3 are and still made the HOF? THAT is the single reason I say "too early" for those 3.

How many players have made the HOF as "players" while playing less than 300 NHL games? Exactly, those guys could retire now and should get in (dunno if they will but should).

Going back to the "hall of fame" argument, Crosby/Ovechkin/Malkin have been the face of the game for the past half decade, that's long enough to be in the hall of "FAME". Same will apply to Stamkos and Giroux in a season or two, those are some of the most prestigious names in the sport for the time being and not one-season wonders either like Weiland.

sully1410 11-10-2012 01:56 PM

I'd have to say that Crosby, Malkin, Ovi, Lidstrom, Brodeur, Datsyuk, Pronger, Selanne, Jagr are for sure locks.

Perry and the Sedins need to have a few more great seasons to make it.

I don't really know about Iggy and Alfie. Fine players, but they probably won't be first ballot. Thomas and Luongo prolly won't make it in.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Datsyuk is an amazing two way player and has won 3 Selkes in a row as well as a handful of cups(3?) and has put up good point totals while doing it. How does he not get in?
