5.0 Flores region, Indonesia http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...usc000dqg4.php 5.9 central Peru |
7.0+ is major.
That's 100 times stronger than 5.0. |

USGS has 2.5+ RSS feed. Kinda need to set the bar somewhere and 5.0 is pretty significant. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...usc000dqi1.php 5.1 quake Guatemala |

A 5.0 won't really do much to California since their buildings are built to withstand earthquakes. But a 5.0 hitting somewhere like New York City would cause a lot of damage. |

You may want to use the other definition of "major", or you're going to be updating this thread several times per day.
|
I know with social media, US geological survey site with near real time data, and forums to post up on it makes it much easier and efficient to do so, but seems to me there's just been a lot more 4.0+ quakes going on in the last month or two than "normal".

How big is an earthquake generally have to be to be felt above ground or even felt well.

(Ground/building are also factors in potential damage from quake.) I nominally feel 4s and up. If I'm sitting/still, I can sometimes feel 3s/lower. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...usc000dr8h.php 5.3 south of Fiji Islands http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...usc000dr8u.php 5.0 Tonga |

Definitely more than say ten years ago. But is it precursor to Revelation's end of the world, or a shift of tectonic proportion (pun intended) that is increasing the #? |
