Vankiller Whale 11-12-2012 07:55 PM

Thank you for posting, great speech by Bure.

Ozz 11-12-2012 08:07 PM

****, they aired this live? Thanks for the video, then!

That rush at :42 is just ridiculous

Thanks for posting this. Bure is my favorite Russian player ever, one of the all time greats in the league and very deserving of this honor. It's a shame his career was cut short, but there is no denying that he was the elite scorer in the league during his career. His combination of speed and skill is unique. Pavel made you stand up out of your seat when he got the puck on his stick. I'm glad he HHOF stood up out of theirs to put him where he belongs.

PS Nice touch in the Bettman horns.

Very few players ever matched Bure's speed with the puck, he really did put fans out of there seat.

BTW Pat Quinn had a strange look on his face when he was sitting in the crowd.

the rest of the speeches are up at nhl.com, by the way.

First game, and I believe first shift.

vadim sharifijanov 11-13-2012 12:27 AM

disappointed that adam oates was the only guy that specifically named teammates (well, mats thanked the guys who showed up, joe mentioned the three hall of famers who showed him the way early on). every year i look forward to hearing about which teammates made an impact on the greats, which unheralded veterans took them under their wing, who their favourite linemates/d partner was, etc.

Two time 60 goal scorer, and another 59g with centre Len Barrie on the Panthers during the dead puck era, nuff said.

I almost died at the horns on Bettman.

Ozz 11-13-2012 10:07 AM

What am I missing with Bettman?

edit: nevermind

What part of the video?

Ozz 11-13-2012 08:40 PM

Horns at 4:33 and again right afterward.

JetsAlternate 11-14-2012 02:05 PM

It was a nice touch when Pavel addressed the fans and looked directly into the camera. In none of the other speeches did anybody look into the camera, nor did he prior to that moment. He certainly gave it some thought before presenting his speech. It appears he really wanted to address everybody watching at home, the fans he performed for every night of his career.

It was a strong moment in a very admirable speech. Good for him.

I look forward to that too, though I understand that the "you can't name everybody, so just make general remarks" approach. I was more surprised that Oates didn't have much of anything to say about his time in Washington. He talked Blues and Bruins, a little Wings, and even mentioned some particular Ducks. He made a comment or two about WAS, but that was it. Didn't call any Caps out by name, as far as I remember.
