First one to make hockey, "hockey"?!

I'm curious about this. I know who was the first main "star" in hockey history, I know who was the first main "star" in terms of goalers, coaches, media, etc. But I do not know who was the first man (or group) to make and establish the first rules of hockey and the game in the late 1800s?

It wasnt a man who started hockey, it was Montreal who played the first real hockey game w actual rules in Victoria...

Victoria Cup...

Yes, but who invented the rules (man or group) and game itself so Montreal could actually play against Victoria without any confusion leading the way to growth of the 1920s?

James Creighton is probably the best answer to the question I think you're asking.

It's a modern trophy but is named after the Victoria Skating Rink in Montreal where they started to play a game that the modern rules of ice hockey have evolved from.

It's probably unfair to name any one person, but if you have to single someone out, then I agree that Creighton seems to be the guy.

This is correct, and it's a travesty that he isn't in the HHOF yet.

SIHR has been campaigning for this the past couple of years, but the selection committee and process is fairly impenetrable. I don't like the chances, but you never know.
