Who has the best team of active draft picks?

Which team has the best ACTIVE "all-drafted" team?

Example:

Carolina/Hartford

Jeff Skinner - Eric Staal - Craig Adams
Erik Cole - Brandon Sutter - Zac Dalpe
Andrew Ladd - Mike Zigomanis - X
Drayson Bowman - Zach Boychuk - X

Chris Pronger - Jack Johnson
Jamie McBain - Justin Faulk
Niclas Wallin - Brett Carson

JS Giguere
Cam Ward

X = no active player drafted

I may have missed someone who has only played in the Euro or minor leagues, but the Canes haven't drafted 4 active RWs with NHL experience... ouch. They've had great success at LW, some solid picks at G and D, and mixed results at C.

Post your team, and judge whether it can beat the team in the post above it!

:wild
bouchard - koivu - gaborik
zucker - granlund - clutterbuck
veilleux - almond - bulmer
kassian - sheppard - pouliot

burns - schultz
scandella - brodin
stoner - falk

harding
hackett

3 players that have yet to play a game but theyre better than the other options i guess.

however this list will hopefully look a lot better once our 2010-2012 draft picks are more proven

Beauner 11-13-2012 08:36 PM

:pens

Malkin-Crosby-Jagr
Malone-Staal-Moulson
Carcillo-Talbot-Kennedy
Kostopolous-Vitale-Armstrong

Orpik-Letang
Scuderi-Whitney
Goligoski-Despres

Fleury
Caron

Will probably destroy most teams.

Yup, best tanking team of all time.

DatsyukNumberOne* 11-13-2012 08:37 PM

Pittsburgh wins for sure..but kind of unfair because of 2 no brainer picks in Crosby/Malkin, can't really say it was because of great drafting.

Think Buff is pretty good but can't name them off my head.

DatsyukNumberOne* 11-13-2012 08:38 PM

Oh you mean the players count if they get traded/cut? Well that changes things then.

Co Ho* 11-13-2012 08:38 PM

Vancouver Canucks:

Sedin - Sedin - Hansen
Raymond - Kesler - Grabner
J. Ruutu - Umberger - Brown
Rodin - Hodgson - Jensen

Edler - Ohlund
Bieksa - Allen
Sopel - Connauton/Corrado

Schneider
Honzik

Tried to pick mostly NHL players, but had to plug in some prospects that could very well crack the team next season. Not sure if Sopel/Ohlund have officially retired yet?

That's something that can't be overlooked. I'm pretty sure Maggie the Monkey could have been at the Penguins draft table and not botch those selections.

The teams that mine the gems are the best drafting teams... Historically, I think Detroit must be near the top, if not the peak. So many great players in the lower rounds, from Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom and so on... Don't forget Adam Oates was signed after not being drafted AT ALL way back in the day. Great scouting!

Well not entirely sure what exactly you wanted, but these are players with NHL experience drafted by the Bruins that still play professionally. Bolded are ones that don't play in the NHL anymore

Lucic - Thornton - Kessel
Marchand - Krejci - Seguin
Versteeg - Bergeron - Caron
Thompson - Sobotka - Bitz

Stuart - Gill
Hunwick - Jurcina
Morisson - Bodnarchuk (both AHL)

Raycroft (played stints last year, I will count him unless otherwise specified)
Toivonen (ECHL)

Pretty bad goaltending, and a very old D corps (though not too bad), but an insane group of forwards. Sobotka at 4th C is nothing to complain about, Bitz is a good grinder, and Thompson a solid 4th line guy also.

Some guys like Seguin were drafted at center (pretty sure Kessel was supposed to be a center too) but primarily play wing so I just put them on the wing. It will be hard to beat these guys offensively

Edmonton Oilers

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Yakupov-Gagner-Hemsky
Smyth-Stoll-Paajarvi
Lombardi-Horcoff-Brodziak
Cogliano

Poti-Petry
Peckham-Greene
Klefbom-Marincin

Dubnyk

had to use some young guys to fill in D spots

^unless I misunderstood tarheelhockey's intentions, guys like Yakupov and Klefbom dont count as they havent played yet

The Zetterberg Era 11-13-2012 08:54 PM

With putting a guy like Pronger in that we are pretty sure is finished this can go interesting ways. For instance the Wings have four players that have not announced their retirement. That makes Knuble, Holmstrom, Slava Kozlov and technically Fedorov all available. Fedorov was set to take the year off but planned on coming back the following year before accepting the CSKA job. He might actually play next year he hasn't said anymore how he is leaning. I guess I will try avoiding putting them in aside from Kozlov who is expected to sign with a KHL team at some point, he was resting injuries to start the season. That is something to keep in mind though as you could make the active players list look a lot more impressive in Detroit.

Franzen - Datsyuk - Slava Kozlov
Filppula - Zetterberg - Fleischmann
Grigorenko (never came over solid Russian pro) - Jarnkrok (already a top 10 scorer in SEL two years running overseas) - Hudler
Abdelkader - Helm - Kopecky
Nyquist/Matthias

Kronwall - Ericsson
Dmitri Bykov (solid stay at home played one year in NA prefers staying in KHL) - Quincey
Kindl - Smith
Marchenko

Howard
Mrazek (it seriously is probably already him)

So the D hasn't been great of course this team looks a ton different without two unfortunate things. Jiri Fischer was forced into a early retirement. Stefan Liv lost his life in the Lokomotiv crash and would be easily the backup goalie.

You could also go the route of saying guys like Mike Green were drafted with former Red Wings picks traded to them. I think that is beyond cheating and didn't go there.

Some of the guys are prospects but are already performing well in pro leagues. Grigorenko was as hyped as Datsyuk and Zetterberg but had an unfortunate auto accident and then pulled the plug early on his NA experience. He has been a fantastic pro in Russia, currently plays between the Radulov brothers at CSKA. Both Grigorenko and Bykov had NA options they made the choice to stay in Russia.

I put cogliano as a 13th forward incase Yakupov didn't count ...and i put in klefbom because I'm pretty sure the oilers only have 4 active D that they drafted....

if there was a season this year Yakupov would clearly be an active NHLer

candyman82 11-13-2012 09:00 PM

*Looks at Jackets draft history*

Nope. Not playing this game.

Klefbom counts he plays pro overseas as is Yakupov right now, that makes both eligible by they standards I have seen. How good they truly are is debatable if you start saying they will beat NHL competition on other squads.

I know including Jarnkrok and Marchenko on a Wings list probably gets looked at funny. But both have already been good pros in Europe, moreso Jarnkrok.

The Caps have to be up there....I think like 8 or so of their #1's are still playing for them.
