Question about the "key"

Most NBA arenas have two lines on each side where players line up to get the rebound when a player is shooting free throws. But the only line that is used is the one that is farther from the basket.

Now, some teams like the Thunder don't have those two "additional" lines in the free throw lane anymore.

So is there really a purpose or is it just an aesthetic choice?

Don't know, but just a guess.

Does the WNBA or NCAA use the inside lines when they line up?

Going by the graphics, I know both WNBA and NCAA play at MSG, but don't know what else Thunder's arena hosts.

Though the Liberty have been playing at the Rock the last few seasons due to the Garden's renovations.

Last I knew the NBA dictated what was supposed to be on the court and I didn't realize they had changed anything.

Good point, but the old OKC court also had the inside lines:

The Lakers also removed those lines this year.

College ball uses the inside lines, yes. Since they mean nothing on an NBA floor, teams aren't required to have them.
