Isn't Jaime Benn RFA? If so, I think Dallas will match any offer made to him if it is less than the $6.7 million compensation (2 1sts, 2nd and 3rd) since they a lot of cap space left.

It doesn't work that way. Unless this is Jamie's brother, Dallas laughs in your face.

Plekanec has good value, but not Benn value. Throwing in kaberle or a marginal D or prospect won't get the job done.

Plekanec might be nice to have, but Benn means you have to give up Patches and no one in Montreal wants to do that, ever.

If you want Jagr as a rental, a pick would probably suffice at the deadline.

If Benn goes to Montreal, Plekanec would not be the centerpiece going back. The "later" 2nd would be more like ≥ 1 first round pick along with two prospects of Dallas' choosing.. Which Galchenyuk would no doubt be one of them. Suffice it to say, Montreal fans wouldn't be too keen on a deal that would get Dallas to send Benn packing.

My thoughts are this is a horrible, horrible trade proposal from the Stars POV. Not even close in value.

Why would the Stars give up the long term future with Benn to re-unite Plekanec and Jagr for a few seasons at the most. Jagr is only signed for this season and even if he re-signed with Dallas, at some point in the near future, he will retire.

Let's be realistic.

Plekanec & Kaberle for 9.5 Million to Dallas.

Kaberle has 2 years left on his deal, so Montreal is going to have to take back similar salary.

How does
Morrow & Fistric ($5.575) both UFA at year's end and one of Oleksiak, Faksa or Ritchie.

A package centering Plekanec for Faksa and Morrow would be a pretty awesome deal for this Habs fan.
