#Leafs new player Leo Komarov is going back to the #KHL to Dynamo without playing a game for Toronto; will stay after the lockout it over.

mattihp 11-15-2012 07:04 AM

Too bad. He would be a fan favourite on any NHL team.

The Saurus 11-15-2012 07:06 AM

Perhaps he will come back next year.

Randall Ritchey 11-15-2012 07:10 AM

With Prokhorkin's contract deemed invalid due to his contract with CSKA, could the same be done with Komarov or did he only sign a one year deal?

I don't understand: Didn't he have a two way contract / didn't the Leafs control where he can play?

This would be akin to Eberle, Hall or RNH being able to pack up and head over to the KHL right now wouldn't it?

Pretty sure it was an authorized leave considering the Marlies are so backed up

yep!!

malkinfan 11-15-2012 09:33 AM

He just got hot too.

LeafOfBread 11-15-2012 09:35 AM

Wow, this sucks. He was looking real good in the AHL.

vorky 11-15-2012 09:39 AM

there was a deal, IMO verbal, if Komarov makes NHL roster until november, he stayed in Canada, if he plays AHL, he came back to Dynamo. He did not make NHL due to lockout, so he is back.

KeziaTML 11-15-2012 09:40 AM

Andddd the typical Leafs season continues. Atleast we aren't too far behind on our win totals from last year.

Not cynical at all.

HockeyGuruPitka 11-15-2012 11:49 AM

He hasnt left yet. They are working out contractual issues. Making sure he can return to the NHL once the lock out ends.

Quote:

Jonas Siegel: Komarov return process to the KHL in motion. Contractual issues to overcome still, primarily ensuring he can return to NHL if lockout ends. Evidently, Komarov did have a provision in his contract for KHL return. For now he remains a Marlie, but process certainly in motion

ThatGuy22 11-15-2012 12:16 PM

Can't blame him. He came over to play in the NHL not make 62,000 playing in the AHL. He will be back when there is a league to play in.

Tuomaz 11-15-2012 01:23 PM

Seems like a NHL-level player.

At least that's good to hear because I think had it not been for the lockout he would have been given a chance to play on the Maple Leafs 4th line.

John-Eric Iannicello 11-15-2012 01:36 PM

Was one of the more consistent Marlies during a rough start to the season. He started to hit his stride recently. He showed signs of being a capable NHL player, and has a certain niche for getting under the opponents skin...I don't know why everyone hates him, but they just do (I say that because I never really saw him 'yapping' like you see from other players who are pest like in the NHL). What I liked most was that he was always willing to get his nose dirty and take punishment infront of the opposition net (something you don't see much of from the Maple Leaf forwards).

As a fan, I can't really hold it against him given there's an NHL lockout. The fact he came over and gave it an honest try is more than I could ask from him.

While one door closes, another opens with the potential for maybe an extended look at some of the current depth players (at least until Frattin returns).

HockeyGuruPitka 11-15-2012 01:59 PM

There ya go

Dreger: Komarov may head to KHL, but he wants to play for the leafs when lockout ends. Both sides are trying to work out a way for that to happen.

and probably made the team. He's looked real good in NA

hototogisu 11-15-2012 02:55 PM

Interesting player. At least, he caught my eye whenever I watched the Marlies this year. Definitely the kind of skill/sandpaper mix you look for in a player of his type. I'd like to see what he could do in a bottom-six role for the Leafs.

Mystifo 11-15-2012 03:21 PM

He said when he came over in a interview he could of made something like 2.8 million a year if he stayed in the KHL but he came over to try for his dream of playing in the NHL. The AHL is nice but really it is not the same compete level as the NHL. Also I am not saying the KHL is as high a compete level as the NHL but lets be reasonable people the AHL has guys like Hall, Eberle and RNH in it right now compare that to Ovie, Malkin, Kovi, Datsyuk, etc. He gets paid more AND plays against better players? Sounds win win to me.

NHL 11-12:

Ovechkin: 78gp 38+27=65
Eberle: 78gp 34+42=76

"You're as good as your last game" :sarcasm:

I suppose so. Man I am guessing after that crazy 8 point night Gagner had he must of been the most valuable player in the NHL.
