Say what you want about the guy's management job of the Leafs so far, but he's a hell of a person and does a lot of great things not just for hockey, but for the city of Toronto.

Good job Burkie! :handclap:

Brownstache 11-16-2012 01:48 AM

Burke is that man, it would be really difficult to find a GM who does more for his community than Burkie, surprised none of the players are hitting the streets with him would be quite the team building experience.

ITM 11-16-2012 01:52 AM

Call me a broken record, but I'm THANKFUL this guy is our GM.

I'm with you on this one.....but get ready for the hate to roll in.

agropop 11-16-2012 02:02 AM

Great GM, and an even better person.

Rare Jewel 11-16-2012 02:07 AM

atta boy Burkie.

LeafOfBread 11-16-2012 02:07 AM

No matter how much you hate Burke, you can't deny his philanthropic activities. He is a good man.

Lobstertainment 11-16-2012 02:19 AM

I guess the Leafs weren't prepared for a lockout.

When I first saw the tweet, my initial reaction was, "Surely the Toronto Maple Leafs twitter is not making a lockout joke..." but then I realized it was real.

legendinblue 11-16-2012 03:02 AM

I like that Burke tries to be a part of the community.

LEAFS FAN 4 EVER 11-16-2012 03:08 AM

The fact that Burke is involved with these types of causes is something I do respect about him and the fact he cares about others.

stakesishigh 11-16-2012 03:50 AM

Good for him, it's awesome how active he is in his causes.

FlareKnight 11-16-2012 05:05 AM

May not like how well he's done his job as GM but certainly can't say bad things about what he does in the community. Definitely respect him for what he does out there.

Besides, at the rate this is going he's going to have nothing but time for philanthropic activities.

I completely agree. I'm glad he's here.

Larcos_Unal 11-16-2012 06:33 AM

you want to help the homeless? lower ticket prices
paying for Leaf tickets is how some people end up depressed and homeless

It always makes me chuckle when I hear people try the Harold Ballard comparison. I'm extremely happy to have someone represent the organization as he does. While the results may not be there yet, at least I'm not embarassed as a human being to associate myself with the Leafs like I was when Ballard was around.

Ballard was an owner. Burke is a GM. Unfortunate Burke is the face of the team. Not unlike Ballard.

Go ahead and be a critic of the man, he has balls and does the right thing every single time. No matter what he does with this roster, I'll always respect the man.

Yeah. I'm sure that's the reason.

RogerRoeper* 11-16-2012 08:22 AM

What a great thing this is. Burke is a great guy.

ULF_55 11-16-2012 08:36 AM

Good for the citizen Burke to care and have the means to do something about it.

Nothing to do with hockey, but hockey is just a game, this is life so credit to those who care.

-------------------------------------

Maybe he could get Greg Sherman out to do the same.

ACC1224 11-16-2012 08:39 AM

Guaranteed he got the spot nearest the subway grate. No one messes with Burke.

I believe that as the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Burke's involvement or participation in this effort raises the profile of this cause and brings more awareness. This will hopefully bring more support or donations. I'm not so sure that the participation everday Joe Citizen would necessarily have the same affect, as important as that is as well.

As a long time Leaf fan, I am proud to have this man as the face of the franchise. I like his principles and love the fact that he gives his time to help others less fortunate.
