This years Euro Offensive D-Man?????

There seems to be almost every year a real young dman in europe somewhere that lights up the league in scoring. Players like Rundblad and Vatanen in the past few years scored a ton of points and recieved different awards overseas for their play. I was wondering who will be this years offensive dman stud playing in Europe?

Exit Dose 11-16-2012 08:40 AM

I think Ristolainen is the top guy.

Edit: Never mind, thought you were asking about the draft.

No really dominating offensive defensemen in Sweden this year, even though Habs prospect Nygren is putting up some good numbers and Sens' Wikstrand as well.

Oscar Fantenberg is another one that should be sought-after for next season, still very young and has really been having a breakout year.

Skinnyjimmy08 11-16-2012 08:52 AM

Ya im looking for players that have already been drafted to NHL and are prospects for NHL teams. I have yet to really hear about anyone so far this year

Elvs 11-16-2012 08:53 AM

Yeah, Oscar Fantenberg has been a surprise for HV71 in the SEL thus far, and was given a spot on Team Sweden in Karjala Cup recently. He's 20 though and undrafted, but if he keeps it up I don't think there's any doubt that a few NHL clubs will offer him a 2-way deal next summer.

Magnus Nygren(Habs/SEL): 22 games, 6+9
Mikael Wikstrand(Sens/SEL2): 21 games, 9+6

No unreal performances, but those are good offensive starts in Sweden.

Tuomaz 11-16-2012 02:00 PM

Kristian Nakyva 22 games 3+14=17

I know Nygren will never be a complete player, but is he still nothing but a walking slapshot or does he have more to his game now?

He plays 22 minutes per game and some PK too, so yeah. A big step forward I'd say. I think he at least deserves an ELC.

Nygren has taken a massive step defensively. He has put on 6-8(can't remember exactly) kilos this summer and has worked alot on all aspects of his defensive play. He even did an open ice hit in the first games of the season, which surprised everyone lol.
He's not as lost in the own half of the rink anymore.

Very big step this year.

ReginKarlssonLehner 11-17-2012 04:21 PM

Wikstrand is one goal away from breaking OEL's record for most goals scored all-time in SEL2 ;)

sillystring 11-17-2012 05:33 PM

Well in Finland there is this player called Erik Karlsson.:sarcasm: Who is putting up some nice numbers. 17 games 5 goals 10 assists 15 points

IHaveNoCreativity 11-17-2012 05:55 PM

Any good Russian D ? Like 1st round potential ?

YARR123 11-17-2012 05:59 PM

Teemu Eronen has slowly and quietly developed into a very good offensive D. Sometimes I've watched a Jokerit game and be like, wow, what a nice play by Erik Karlsson, and then realize it wasn't Karlsson but Eronen (not saying by any means that Eronen is as good as Karlsson, lol). I don't know if he's got much NHL potential, but who knows. He's playing in the men's national team right now and he's been doing very well.

Kristian Näkyvä is another very skilled young offensive D from Finland, but he's not quite as well rounded as Eronen.

Nikita Zadorov, playing for the London Knights definitely has first round potential. But he's not an offensive dman.
