Which position has the best prospects

Lots of noteworthy prospects coming up

Forward: Yakupov, Tarasenko, Bartschi, Galyenchuk, Kuznetov, Granlund, Huderdeau + 2013 draft prospects

Defense: Hamilton, Schultz, Murray, Rielly, Reinhart, Brodin, Smith, Dumba, Vatanen,Klefbom + 2013 draft prospects

Goalie: Lack, Campbell, Wedgewood, Lehner, Markstrom, Subban, Gibson, Vasilevsky + 2013 draft prospects
Which position has the most strength

Too close, but only between the forwards and defensemen.

Forwards

AngelDuck 11-16-2012 06:24 PM

If you're including guys that are eligible for the 2013 draft, then forwards.

If not, then defensemen

Pretty good take. Agreed.

I'd agree with this.

Boom.

You really should have J. Gibson among the goalies.

DuckJet 11-16-2012 08:35 PM

Honestly I think the quality of defense in the NHL is going to go way up. Defensemen.

Vankiller Whale 11-16-2012 08:45 PM

Forward prospects fairly easily for me. Yakupov-Hamilton is really close, but otherwise as I compared Tarasenko-Schultz, Baertschi-Murray, etc, I'd pick the forward every time.

Just giving examples, not to familiar with goalie prospects but not saying he isnt one

Defensemen for me.

I agree. Subban and Vasilevski could also be included. That way you'd have at least around the same amount of players mentioned in each position.

That's fair. I just thought it would help express the talent in net a bit more.

Overall, I think there are more quality forwards, but keep in mind you there are about 400 forwards in the NHL, 150 D, and 60 goalies. It is expected that fewer D and G will be elite. I think defense is the position with the strongest prospects relative to the holes that can be filled at the NHL level.
