All-Star Game to be nixed soon

As a Jacket fan with tickets to the game, I'm disappointed there probably won't be an ASG in Columbus this year, but this is for the best. If there is a season, we need to play regular season games that weekend, not some glorified scrimmage. Hopefully Columbus gets the game back in 2015 - I think people will be impressed by Nationwide Arena, the area around the arena, and the hockey fans in Columbus - good fans who have endured horrendous hockey.

The allstar game has been as good as gone since the lockout started. If there is a season at all that week will be needed to make up games. Sorry to hear you have tickets but it shoulda been canceled before the wc imo.

Yep, I agree. No reason to waist time for the allstar game if you are trying to squeeze in as many games in as possible.

I know right? Just like the pro bowl it's my least favorite hockey/football related event.

Finally some good strike news.

If there is going to be a shortened season, I assumed that the the ASG would be scrapped in order to get in any many regular season games as possible. I have to admit, whenever this is figured out, I'm really curious to see how both the league and PA will 'thank' the fan this time around.

Whether you like the ASG or not (I don't) it brings in a ton of cash for the team hosting it. That cash will be sorely missed in Columbus, thats for sure.

Agreed. Don't waist time. Instead squeeze as many games that you can under your waste.

What a bunch of loosers. I hate to loose. But with my waste, I need to lose my belt.

PyroK 11-19-2012 09:14 PM

I've never been able to watch the All-Star game because it's on a channel I don't have, but I assume there is a reason why it's hated just as much as the Pro Bowl?

WingedWheel1987 11-19-2012 09:15 PM

I really hope it doesn't get cancelled.

The only cool thing about the ASG weekend is the skills competition.

The actual ASG itself is a snoozefest...good riddance.

Agreed. You can't take the hitting out of football and hockey and expect people to care.

The Allstar game is a complete waste of resourses anyway. Pond hockey at it's best. The only thing I enjoy about Allstar weekend is the skills competition.

cutchemist42 11-20-2012 09:00 AM

Can it go away every year?

stuffradio 11-20-2012 09:02 AM

I did not like the All Star Game. It was very boring.

Ask Phoenix how that worked out.

The ASG is a big deal and a lot of fun for people in the host city, and pretty much irrelevant for everyone else.

I feel badly for the fans in Columbus as it's a big hockey schmooze fest and a good time if you're local. Hopefully they will get a replacement before too long.

Lacaar 11-20-2012 10:31 AM

Yup definately the best news of the lockout.

You would think this would be common sense, but the NBA played a compressed season last year in which teams were forced to play back-to-back-to-back and they still squeezed in a 4-day All-Star Break.

When was Phoenix supposed to host it? The last time it got cancelled was during the 2004-2005 lockout and Atlanta was supposed to host it that year. However Atlanta was given the 2008 All Star Game to make up for that.

Phoenix was supposed to host it in 2005-06, but it was cancelled due the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

Dado 11-20-2012 09:14 PM

Kraft just bailed as a sponsor - no more "Hockeyville".

Ah that's right, I completly forgot they were the ones awarded it for that year. When I just looked that up on Google there are some old articles which mention it. However on Wikipedia it just mentions the game not happening because of the 2006 Winter Olympics and doesn't mention Phoenix was suppsoed to host it.

The one benefit of the lockout.
