Grey Cup Prediction Game

Just give a score and MVP, and the winner will be determined by who does best in all these categories combined

-Who wins
-Score Difference
-East Score
-West score
-MVP

0 points if you pick the right team to win, 5 if you pick the wrong team, -5 points if you pick the right MVP, 3 points if you pick the wrong MVP, and 1 for every point you are off in the other categories

I will keep track in the OP, but will be out tomorrow night so don't expect instant results (at least not from me, mods are free to edit the op to include them though)

the winner get's a cookie

Lol, forgot the CFL still exists.

Qward 11-24-2012 10:51 PM

i predict i will not watch it.

I also predict that I will be happy when it's over so TSN stops hyping it up trying to make it like the superbowl.

Really?

Is that why this one is the 100th and the Super bowl is only at there 47th?:amazed:

1 Super bowl has more people watching and makes more money than all 100 Grey Cups combined.

So what, that is a country 10x the size of ours

Also, older means more tradition and history behind it.

Doesn't mean it's more exciting or higher quality football.

MVP Chad Owens

No (although it does make rivalries more intense), but I think the rules do. Way more open, more chance of comebacks, more passing.

Anyways I don't want to get into this because it never ends well, if people don't like the CFL they don't have to click this thread

ReginKarlssonLehner 11-25-2012 12:27 AM

I used to love the CFL during pinball Clemons days. Damon Allen was my fav QB ever in the CFL. I modeled my QB ways after him. I hated that Montreal Alouettes QB Anthony Calvillo. He looked so unathletic and it pissed me off when they did well. ARRGH.

My fav player ever was Prefontaine when I had such a passion as a kicker.

I know I said I wouldn't get into it, and this is a small difference that doesn't really effect the game, but more money also means more expensive tickets and more tv commercials

When marketing the CFL , the league banks on that 100 yrs. The one thing you cannot market is History and all the NFL billions cannot buy it. You either have it or you do not. And the Superbowl being slightly older than Disco is not that impressive to traditionalists. You can put it in as many Roman Numerals as you want but the Superbowl pales to the Stanley/Grey/World series in regards to all that cool old timey footage.

Qward 11-25-2012 01:28 AM

So, now money is a bad thing in football?

How much did the cowboys spend on their new stadium?

How's the Roughriders new one coming along?

The CFL is a great league.

No need to compare it too much to the NFL.

The CFL has done something that the XFL, AFL, etc, could not do, carving a successful niche into a market dominated by the NFL.

Yes, because it's in Canada. If the CFL would've been in the US just like the other leagues you posted, it would've folded. Only way there's going to be another successful Football league in the US is if the NFL decides to implement farm teams kinda like the AHL.

The CFL is to the NFL as the KHL/SEL is to the NHL. It's a plan B.

many other "Plan B"s have failed, the UFL, AFL, XFL, and NFL europe mainly.
the CFL is more than a plan B, and unique in that way, and holds a position that cannot be compared to any other sport. It's the second tier american football league in a world where there are only two tiers of american football.

as for my prediction, Stamps 25 Argos 22.
Jon Cornish as MVP.

Honest to God, NOTHING you just said matters in the slightest. They've carved out a niche regardless of where they play.

Score Difference - Last second field goal to win
Score - Calgary 32 - 31 Toronto

Also, CFL > NFL AINEC. Go Bombers! :D

PatrickEaves 11-25-2012 09:41 AM

The CFL might not have the talent or money of the NFL but the rules are so much better for the excitment of the game.

Greeningfan14 11-25-2012 10:00 AM

Toronto 35, Calgary 21
MVP Ricky Ray

I'm going to channel my inner "John Madden Pre-Game Sound Bytes" to answer these:

Who Wins: When these two great teams play eachother, it's a war out there. Both sides have what it takes to win it all, but at the end of the day, there has to be a winner and a loser. I predict the team who wants it most is going to come away with the championship, and you can be sure they'll leave a trail of blood, tears, and emotion behind them on their way to glory.

Score Difference: When you look at the history of these two teams, the one thing you notice is that they're both highly competitive. You see one team run up the score on the other, and then the other team returns the favor at a later date. I think the score in this game is going to be real close, unless one of these powerhouses doesn't show up; if that's the case, it'll be a real bloodbath out there. Either way, we're in for some great football!

East Score: The one thing you have to know is that the East produces some great football players, and this team has no shortage of them. That's why they're playing for a championship! It all starts with the quarterback: if he can put the team on his back, there's no way these guys can be stopped. Still, it's a team game, and everyone is going to need to have their best game if this team is going to score enough to take home glory.

West Score: Now, I know I'm usually the kind of guy who says "Defence Wins Championships", but here's one team that breaks all the rules. From top to bottom, this team is an offensive machine, and if they can open that circus top, watch out. They play football the right way, and when you do that, you can really start to wear out the lights on the scoreboard.

MVP: I know it's a long shot, but I'm going to have to go with Brett Favre.
