When he’s able to play — his timetable is sometime in January — Gudbranson is expected to start the season with the Panthers’ AHL affiliate in San Antonio even if the lockout is over.

On Monday, Gudbranson finally came public about how he got hurt, telling The Miami Herald it happened while wakeboarding on a lake in Ontario with his buddies.

The accident, Gudbranson said, happened early in the morning on the first run of the day. He pulled up when the rope he was holding onto, while being pulled by a boat, slacked up. Gudbranson slammed into the water and dislocated his shoulder in the process. “I should have let go,” he said.

Gudbranson is very contrite about the injury and said he has repeatedly apologized to the Panthers — and called each of his teammates individually after it happened. Gudbranson said his wakeboarding days are done. He even sold his wakeboard.

Great news. In the decade I have been a diehard panthers fan I never wanted to put a name on the back on the back of my jersey because i didnt think anyone was deserving. That might change with gudbranson.

And remember, this is coming from a 20 year old. That's rare maturity for someone his age, I love it.

That's pretty awesome that he called each teammate to let them know what happened and that he's sorry.

I seem to like the guy more and more as time goes on as a great mature player that will be a huge part on our team for years to come.

From reading his Tweets daily, he wants to end the lockout as much as anyone.

One good thing about this lockout is that we are getting guys healthy again. Steeger is ready to go, and now Gudbranson as well.

People get injured. Whether its while wakeboarding or playing hockey. Good on him for apologizing to the team, but not really necessary. However great kid, great player.

On one hand, I think it's great that he has other interests outside of hockey and likes to have fun just like the rest of us. Can't blame the guy.
On the other hand, he now realizes how much money he just threw away, and how much that could have affected the team if they needed him and he wasn't available.

This reminds me of my favorite F1 driver, Kimi Raikkonen. He just signed a new contract with Lotus and went and broke his wrist hooning around on a snowmobile shortly before the season started. Luckily, he had some good hand specialists to heal him up quick. But it could have been really bad for his career..

He's not ready to go he is just skating again. The article said he is shooting for a January return. That's assuming there is a season to return to.

Per Harvey's twitter, Guds has been cleared for contact.
