Good/Great players you DON'T want traded to your team

In fear of either total overpayment or the fact that you don't think they'd do well, or you simply don't like them

I wouldn't want Joe Thornton, dude loses everywhere he goes, plus I feel like it would cost a lot

Broad Street Elite 11-29-2012 11:53 AM

To me, the only Good/Great players I wouldn't be interested in are the terrible contracts. Even considering the loathing of Crosby felt by all Flyers fans, I for one would absolutely take him.

Examples of players I want no part of:

1.) Ville Leino - Would fit in nicely again in Philly, but that contract is a non-starter.
2.) Ilya Bryzgalov - Still think he's a good goalie, not a great one. Paid like an MVP caliber goaltender with a full NMC and a lengthy, expensive contract.
3.) Shawn Horcoff - Solid player/Leader/Grinder. Bad, bad contract.
4.) Vincent Lecavalier - Good player paid like a superstar. Not good value.

FanHabtic 11-29-2012 11:54 AM

Phil Kessel. Judging from his colleagues at the ASG they don't want him either. ;)

:blues

One dimensional offensive players. They wouldn't fit into the team concept/game plan, significantly weakening the team.

So guys like Phil Kessel, Steven Stamkos, Alex Ovechkin, Alex Semin, Patrick Kane, Brian Campbell, Erik Karlsson etc.

The Blues are built to win close, low-scoring games i.e. 1-0, 2-1, 3-1; they are not built to win games 5-2, 6-3, 7-4, etc. If all five players on the ice aren't buying into the team defense strategy, it falls apart. Without it, the Blues don't have enough firepower to be competitive.

While some of those players have the offense to make-up for their lack of defense (Stamkos, Karlsson), I'm afraid of the impact it would have on those players that don't have that level of offense. Guys like Oshie and Steen don't have enough offense to be top-six players without their great defense. If everyone doesn't buy into the team defense concept, it doesn't work very well. If the team defense doesn't work, the Blues don't win.

Patrick Kane.

I can't stand his attitude.

Edit:

Ovechkin
Semin <-------------
Karlsson

Thornton's gold medals from the Olympics, WJHC and World Cup beg to disagree.

Alex Semin is not a one dimensional player. He is actually an above average defensive player and an excellent PKer.

I think Crosby's contract is terrible for a guy with his concussion history. I would take the risk, but I have serious doubts he's playing towards the end of that contract.

Some guys I don't want on the Flyers but I think are good players:

Jay Bouwmeester
Alex Ovechkin
Rick Nash
Jeff Carter

Not in my (admittedly limited) viewings of him, nor in his reputation. However, reputations are often distorted, and as I said I only have limited viewings of him (usually focusing on Alzner and Carlson when I watch the Caps) so I will defer to your opinion. My thoughts remain the same though, players that won't commit to playing defense have no place on the Blues. Perhaps Semin doesn't belong on the list. Maybe replace him with Mike Green?

Regardless, I think you understood the type of player I don't want. :)

frankthetank91 11-29-2012 12:42 PM

This has been done, and the majority answer is the Sedins.

So you wouldn't want Steven "Rocket Richard" Stamkos on your team? He is not a liability and if your whole team is defensive, having one guy who will be protected and is an offensive beast wouldn't hurt. Defensive system or not.

Do Not Want:

Jay Bouwmeester (I want my team to go to the playoffs :sarcasm: )
Ales Hemsky (We have too many playmakers, not enough goalscorers)
Alex Ovechkin (Expensive)
Roberto Luongo (Contract too long)

No you would want Mike Green on your team, he is underrated defensively.

Fire Sather 11-29-2012 01:00 PM

Ovechkin

Dolph Ziggler 11-29-2012 01:01 PM

Basically the entire roster of Vancouver Canuck forwards, specifically Burrows, Kesler, and the Sedins.

Also Patrick Kane and Patrick Marleau.

Marco Esquandolas 11-29-2012 01:02 PM

I'll take any good/great player so long as their contract won't handcuff the team

Petro Points 11-29-2012 02:05 PM

As long as they make my team better I could care less....

Well actually Bolland & its only rally because of the war of words that went on between him & our coach. NO WAY that works in the room after your coach basically calls you an ugly idiot.

Dude, WTF? I'm sorry, but if you think your team would not be better with these players I think you're overdoing the team concept thing a little too much. I mean you're saying you wouldn't trade somebody like Langenbrunner for Stamkos?

Darth Joker 11-29-2012 02:54 PM

Vincent Lecavalier - Above average player, paid like a superstar, long term. Plus, if he came to the Habs at this point in his career, I'm pretty sure it would be like Denis Savard all over again, only with cap issues to boot...

Dany Heatley - I don't think his attitude would work well in the current Habs dressing room. I think the cost for him would also be too high.

Dany Briere - Not now. He made his choice, and so I don't think I'd ever want to see him as a Hab.

Zdeno Chara - Obvious reasons.

Horvat2Virtanen 11-29-2012 02:58 PM
