Better Duo, Halak and Elliot or Thomas and Rask

If you were a coach/gm, which combination of goalies would you rather have and why?

Kezia 11-30-2012 12:08 PM

Thomas

Halak
Rask

Elliott

My thoughts as well.

Halak, Elliot for me. They were dynamite last year (even if its because of Hitchcock).

Dolph Ziggler 11-30-2012 12:55 PM

Moving forward Halak/Elliott, especially if Elliott can be anything close to what he was a year ago.

SenateReform 11-30-2012 01:02 PM

In my mind it's not even close. I've seen all 4 of these goalies play a lot of games in the NE and Thomas/Rask stand out as the much better option.

HockeyFan100 11-30-2012 01:23 PM

Elliot/Halak, first duo to get 6 shutouts each. Nuff said.

But I think next season the best duo will be Fluery/Vokoun.

MattyMo35 11-30-2012 01:25 PM

Thomas is the best of the bunch, but he's nearing the end of the line. Halak and Elliott are both still fairly young, 27, so I'd rather have them moving forward.

Christian Litscher 11-30-2012 01:38 PM

Thomas and Rask AINEC

Stanley Cup > 6 regular season shutouts

Diamondillium 11-30-2012 01:40 PM

I'd go Halak and Eliott simply due to the fact that Thomas is not playing, and at his age I wouldn't put too much trust in his ability when he does eventually come back.

Backlund 11-30-2012 01:44 PM

Thomas and Rask.

Cup > Whatever accomplishments Halak & Elliot have.

BruinsNeedaRussian 11-30-2012 01:45 PM

Assuming Thomas is playing and this is short term, the Bruins duo. Real life Blues. Very confident in the Rask/Khudobin duo though. Khudobin is unproven, but has looked damn good in his few NHL appearances.

The obvious answer but by judging the pole it seems that I am mistaken.

Nizdizzle 11-30-2012 01:46 PM

Thomas/Rask by a decent margin IMO, and this is as a bitter Leaf fan. Elliot/Halak are both decent goalies, but their numbers are more of a product of coaching/systems than the Bruins duo.

(My thinking is if I had to use a pair for the Leafs, I have no doubt the Blues goalies would get lit up [moreso than Thomas/Rask might])

Razor29 11-30-2012 02:02 PM

It would depend on the defense.

Elliott with poor defense = disaster, just look at last years ASG as an example.

Agreed with this, hard to put Thomas/Rask as #1 going forward considering it's possible that Thomas has played his last season. Rask with Subban developing ain't bad goalie depth either though.

Bleedred 11-30-2012 02:21 PM

Going forward Halak, and Elliott, but Thomas, and Rask were better, and were together longer.

Now Thomas, and TURCO! That might have been one of the worst tandems I've seen in quite a while!

I Hate Chris Butler 11-30-2012 02:23 PM

Unless Ken Hitchcock is my coach, Thomas and Rask AINEC.

lol yea, lets judge a goalie based on a period he played in the all star game.

Bleedred 11-30-2012 02:26 PM

Tim Thomas, and Lundqvist weren't great in the all star game either. It's just a combination of things. never practiced together before, no real system at all, each line full of type players in the league, etc.

Thee Implication 11-30-2012 02:29 PM

I would want Thomas a few years ago- his attitude nowadays is a giant turn off

Noob616 11-30-2012 02:32 PM

This season it would be Halak/Eliott, simply because Thomas is on his sabbatical. Going forward (which I interpret "as a GM" to mean), it's Thomas/Rask. Thomas will probably be good for 1 more season at a high level, and Rask is probably the best goalie going forward. Thomas doesn't have much value because of how little time he has left (I can't see him playing more than 1 season after he gets back from his year off), and Eliott is probably just a flash in the pan at the elite level. It basically boils down to Rask vs Halak going forward, because Thomas won't be around for long, and Eliott probably won't be elite for long, and I see Rask as a slightly better goalie than Halak going forward. Hard to go wrong with either pairing though.

Frank Drebin 11-30-2012 02:32 PM

Its not close.

Thomas is a lot better than Halak, and Rask is a lot better than Elliott.

OzzyFan 11-30-2012 02:33 PM

Since the poll is going forward, obviously I take Halak/Elliot. Blah blah Hitchcock, if hitchcock's system and coaching are the same for the next 3-5yrs, without question it's Halak/Elliot. Even if it's not, Rask/Thomas isn't going to be a duo for long. Next time Tim Thomas is likely gonna touch nhl ice he's gonna be 39yrs old and have missed a whole season, or he could retire(he's weird and it wouldn't surprise me).

Better resume: Thomas/Rask without question
Who'd I rather have going forward: Halak/Elliot without question
