2013 Hall of Fame Ballot (No one elected)

Thought it deserved it's own thread, considering who was on it. Sorry, but I must be the one to start the ****-show. Now taking arguments on why Bonds/Clemens are not worthy of the Hall of Fame! :D

But wait, this is the Baseball Hall of Fame. Where such luminaries as Jim Rice have made it and Jack Morris will soon join him. Yet Mike Mussina won't. And for the next year or two, neither will one of the two greatest position players in baseball history or one of the 5 greatest pitchers in baseball history.

I refuse to touch the Big Two debate in this year's class. Instead I'd like to focus on how Tim Raines needs to get in this year.

Here's my post from when this was brought up in News and Notes thread.

#RoyceClaytonForHoF :sarcasm:

I'm interested to see how many votes Kenny Lofton gets. I liked him as a player, he's probably not HoF material but I wonder if he gets enough love to stay on the ballot.

Looking over last years ballot. Tim Salmon(5), Bill Mueller(4), Brad Radke(2), Javy Lopez(1), and Eric Young(1) got votes.

Here's who'd I vote for: (voters can vote for as many as 10 players)
Barry Bonds
Roger Clemens
Sammy Sosa
Mike Piazza
Mark McGwire
Curt Schilling
Jeff Bagwell
Craig Biggio
Tim Raines
Fred McGriff

Flame away...

Bonds, Clemens and Sosa all belong in. Even if you're someone who believes steroids are magic pills, in an era where nearly everyone was on them, the greats still stood out and guys like Nook Logan still sucked.

Bonds and Clemens were on the HoF path even before they took "PEDs" too.

It's a shame Bagwell is getting shafted just because he played in that era. When he has never been tied to steroids. The idiotic voters just assume he was. :shakehead:

(The balls being juiced during the steroid probably has more to do with inflated numbers in that era than "PEDs" did, but that's beating a dead horse around here at this point.)

Blades of Glory 12-01-2012 10:47 AM

I don't know about Sosa. He has an awfully weak case beyond his 600+ home runs. A career .343 OBP, only two seasons of 6+ WAR, and a career 128 OPS+? There are far worse players in the HOF, but Sosa is hardly in the same boat as Bonds and Clemens.

It'd be a shame if Bonds doesn't get in.

Blackhawkswincup 12-01-2012 01:25 PM

Sosa was garbage before steroids and also cheated with corked bats ,, Not HOF materials

Bonds and Clemens were were HOF before they went all in on Roids IMO

Corked bats are scientifically proven to have little-to-no benefits.

Fire Sather 12-01-2012 05:45 PM

Someone provide proof that roids help you as a baseball player

no?

to the HOF they go without question

darko 12-01-2012 06:49 PM

Hopefully one day Bagwell will get in.

PyroK 12-01-2012 07:18 PM

Lofton and Wickman please.

robert terwilliger 12-01-2012 07:21 PM

robert terwilliger 12-01-2012 07:28 PM

Bob Wickman is second only to Mariano Rivera in terms of greatest closers of all time.

robert terwilliger 12-01-2012 07:40 PM

i hate trolls.

blueandgoldguy 12-01-2012 07:44 PM

I think the voters will go with Bagwell, Biggio and Piazza. None of them were ever rumored to be on steroids and their numbers are HOF-worthy. Bonds, Clemens and Sosa will be punished by the voters for being on steroids for a notable portion of their careers. BOnds will get in next year though. HE was clear-cut hall of famer prior to using steroids in 1999.

Corey Perry* 12-01-2012 08:06 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if Clemens doesn't get in. The steroids are one thing, but he was also a **********, so they might not vote for him.

Bump.

Judgement day is getting closer and as in said in off-season thread. It's looking more and more like nobody will get in. (Other than maybe veterans committee nominees)

^ Great quotes from Stark in that article I was coming to post:

Quote:

Hundreds of players took PEDs. There was only one Barry Bonds.

But to me, the thought of having the ultimate baseball museum try to make us believe that a player this great was invisible is absurd. Absurd.
