Mariusz Czerkawski and Krystof Oliwa were both Polish nationals and played in the NHL. I can't think of anymore though.

Lugaid 12-02-2012 04:08 PM

Mariusz Czerkawski is a legend! :)

DrunkElkCZ 12-02-2012 05:38 PM

Peter Sidorkiewicz? He was a goalie for Senators and Devils in the early 90's

Giuseppe Franco 12-02-2012 06:05 PM

http://www.hockey-reference.com/friv...ovince=&state=

1 Mariusz Czerkawski
2 Nick Harbaruk
3 Edward Leier
4 John Miszuk
5 Krzysztof Oliwa
6 Peter Sidorkiewicz
7 Wojtek Wolski

These are players born in Poland. As far as players of Polish descent, I'm sure there's quite a few. Isn't Gretzky part Polish? I know Tavares is as well.

Taken from Wikipedia: Prior to World War I, Gretzky's father Anton (Tony) Gretzky immigrated along with his family to Canada via the United States from the Russian Empire (what is now Grodno, Belarus).Following the war, Anton would marry his wife, Mary, who immigrated from Pidhaitsi, interwar Poland (now Ukraine).Gretzky's ancestry is typically described as either Belarusian, Ukrainian, or Polish. In interviews, Walter Gretzky has stated that his parents were Belarusians, while on other occasions he has mentioned his family's Polish ancestry.

Macedonian surmanes, majority of them, also ends with -ski, like Jovanovski. Pavelski is much closer to being Macedonian, than Polish

Pavelski is Polish. In fact, Wikipedia states Pavelski is born to Polish parents... But I wasn't right about Jovanovski. He's of Macedonian descent.

Joe Pavelski Yup
Dustin Tokarski Yup
Trevor Letowski Yup
Brendan Bochenski Yup
Zenith Komarniski Doubt it, so I say no, sounds more Ukrainian
Kevin Kaminski Possible
Brian Rafalski Definitely Yup
Drake Berehowski it's actually Beherowsky... Y's are either anglicized or simply not from Poland, so I don't know about this
Alex Goligoski Couldn't find any info, so 50/50...
Steve and Brendan Dubinski Dubinsky... same as Beherowsky

I don't know if Wisniewski knows he's Polish or not (his name is Polish), but is butchered in English. Should be pronounced, Ves-neea-f-ski.

Is it true Wolski is now playing in Poland during the NHL lockout? Greg PALUCH is a NCAA coach who played in the NHL of Polish ancestry.

jekoh 12-05-2012 07:48 AM

Peter Bondra is half Polish.

No he's not. His father is Slovak and his mother is Polish.

Pete Stemkowski was born in Winnipeg but obvious Polish decent.

Oliwa is an embarrassment post-retirement. Smh.

Alpine 12-28-2012 09:12 AM

I always think these days when listing players of descent not born and trained in their ancestors nation that soon we'll have a thread on Jamicans:sarcasm:

I had the opportunity to meet Oliwa. He is a great guy. He has private lessons with my younger brother. Im Polish so its great to see a hard hitting polish player teaching my little brother how to hit haha.

yeah, Wisniewski has descent but isnt polish speaking. Only guy I can think of that plays right now is Wolski, underrated at the caps.

Aren't there a bunch of prospects who can fit this criteria? Warsofsky, Weircioch, Welinski, Grzelcyk, Yakubowski, Jankowski, Werenski.
