Rank the Devils defense (#1)

This is just for fun, because it seems like there is a lot of different opinions about the Devils defense, so I want to see how we at HFBoards collectively rank them. There is very little separating everyone, except for probably Harrold, who is the clear cut #8.

Who brings the most to the table and who plays the best for their stlye of play?

Rob Nieds work ethic 12-02-2012 10:08 AM

All-around or defense-first?

njdevils1982 12-02-2012 10:09 AM

none are the best or stand out above. its the whole better then the sum of the parts that gets to the finals.

Bleedred 12-02-2012 10:09 AM

Good topic. As of right now I'd say

Greene
Fayne
Zidlicky
Larsson
Salvador
Tallinder
Volchenkov
Harrold

In before the ''Tallinder has the best CORSI in the league why do you place him so low?'' post. I could swap Tallinder, and Salvador in this poll, and I feel Larsson could move ahead of Zidlicky, and likely in the top spot pretty soon.

I'd just say their impact. Who brings the most to the table and who plays the best for their stlye of play?

That's the point though. Everyone has different opinions, so it would be cool to have a collective opinion to look back on.

Bleedred 12-02-2012 10:13 AM

We have a lot of defensive defensemen. Volchenkov, Salvador, Tallinder, and even Fayne though he has gotten a few goals, and some points each year.

Going by the bolded part,

Greene
Tallinder
Zidlicky
Salvador
Fayne
Larsson
Volchenkov
Harrold

Went with Tallinder even though him and Greene are probably 1a and 1b. Then I'd probably go Fayne, Zidlicky, Larsson, Salvador, Volchenkov.

i'd have to give sal big props if put that way....and seeing zids actually go below the hash marks on a PP is great to see for a devils Dman. paul martin is our best hitter since scotty though, so he ranks no.1 ;)

GM17* 12-02-2012 10:44 AM

Took Fayne for his utility

Rhodes 81 12-02-2012 10:48 AM

took zid because he's not a sieve defensively and otherwise is better than everyone else at everything except physical play.

hlaverty06 12-02-2012 11:25 AM

Andy Greene

Pretty much what I was thinking.

goalvalchuk17 12-02-2012 12:46 PM

Who voted for harrold? Hahahaha

Oroku Saki* 12-02-2012 12:50 PM

Offense: Zidlicky
Defense: Salvador
Two-way: Greene
Physical and PK: Volchenkov
PP:Zidlicky

Overall I went Zidlicky.

Mgd31 12-02-2012 01:04 PM

Tallinder

MadDog172430 12-02-2012 01:39 PM

Andy Greene is the one defender I would say is the most consistent in every area. He really picked up his physical game this past season too.

Spot on. Although I think a healthy Tally is better than Sal.

If I had to pick a D-man for a random scenario, it's Greene. He's great defensively and can put up points if needed. He had 38 points a few years ago before shifting his game to the stay at home side. He's probably the only player last year I didn't have an issue with at any point. He's just solid.

njdevils1982 12-02-2012 06:19 PM

weve all seen it but it deserves another look. :handclap:

Bingo. That's what does it for me.

Chessarmy 12-02-2012 06:51 PM

Andy Greene for me, and a healthy Tallinder follows behind as a close second.

On a somewhat related note, I really thought Volchenkov would be better when he signed with us

For poll accuracy, there should have been a: none of the above category.
