Top 5 Most Iconic People in Hockey

I was just wondering throughout years in hockey, what would be your list for the most iconic people in hockey.

1) Lord Stanley
2) Wayne Gretzky
etc.

Raym11 12-02-2012 08:38 PM

Rocket Richard has to be up there

Fire Dumboer 12-02-2012 08:40 PM

Bobby Orr after that diving goal

DKQ 12-02-2012 08:46 PM

Conn Smythe
Clarence Campbell

Wayne Gretzky
Gordie Howe
Bobby Orr
Mario Lemieux
Maurice Richard
Jean Beliveau
Steve Yzerman
Don Cherry
Sidney Crosby

Paul Henderson

In no particular order, those are the guys who would be considered "iconic" for me

2a. Gordie Howe
2b. Bobby Orr

Wayne Gretzky.

When people that have never watched hockey in their life think of hockey, thats the first name that comes to mind.

Oberyn 12-02-2012 09:03 PM

Oleg Kvasha
BJ Crombeen
Dustin Jeffrey

Not in that order of course.

Oyabun 12-02-2012 09:10 PM

Its ok, he forgot John Scott and Akim Aliu too, he clearly has no idea what he's talking about

Short list (trying not to repeat what others have listed):

Vadislav Tretiak
Herb Brooks
Peter Forsberg

Honourable mention to Jules Winnfield, Chris Chelios' youth hockey coach....

;)

Black Label 12-02-2012 09:29 PM

It depends where you are from. If you are from Sweden, Forsberg will be on there. If you're Czech, Hasek will be on that list. Selšnne would be on there for Finns and so on.

craigcaulks* 12-02-2012 09:30 PM

Foster Hewitt drops in, says hi, mentions he shouldn't be top 5 but is up there, then leaves.

tarheelhockey 12-02-2012 09:33 PM

Surprised King Clancy hasn't been mentioned yet.

Victorious Secret 12-02-2012 09:35 PM

Aki Berg is up there somewhere.

nitz 12-02-2012 09:40 PM

The answer changes depending on your nationality.

Gretzky, Howe, Orr, M. Richard and Lemieux would be my 5.

Machinehead 12-02-2012 09:41 PM

Gretzky absolutely HAS to be #1.

People who have literally never seen a hockey game in their life know who Wayne Gretzky is.

McLovin25 12-02-2012 10:14 PM

Gretzky
crosby
orr
cherry
brian burke

Kronwalled55 12-02-2012 10:19 PM

No Brodeur?

Gretzky
Crosby
Brodeur
Howe
Orr

Not in that order, but people who don't even know hockey tend to know who Marty is.

Big McLargehuge 12-02-2012 10:22 PM

Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Richard, Howe
