Looks like Arsenal aren't really gong for first place in the group. Weak/Young squad going to Olympiacos

First team to be eliminated in the group stages after winning the whole thing the previous year

Europa league, here we come!!!

A six goal loss and Zagreb will equal their zero points, -19 GD record performance from last season. A clean sheet loss and they will be the only team besides Maccabi Haifa in 09-10 to put up zero points and zero goals for since the current format came into play.

I actually quite like Chelsea's chances. With a win against Nordesjaelland then a Donetsk win puts them through, and a Juve win puts their chances fairly high on goal difference. A draw in the other game and they're done, but I have confidence that they can still advance.

RonTugnutt 12-03-2012 04:37 PM

To be honest I want City to lose and just leave Europe all together. Dont deserve to be playing European football right now, lets focus on the league.

No. Chelsea are out if Juve draw or win. Shakhtar are through regardless.

Only hope is that Donetsk try to win the group to get a better tie in the next round.

I wish I was as optimistic as you. Especially with the BS luck/form this team has lately.

Looks like Real isn't going with their strongest lineup. Casillas and Ramos not in the squad.

Hopefully Cheryshev and José Rodríguez get some time. It'd be nice to get them some Champions League experience.

My mistake, thought it was full goal difference, not head to head. The team has been horrendous lately, but Benitez has a great UCL record and hopefully they'll get the collective **** together and put in a good game. This is a win they should get. Now let's just hope Shakhtar bring a good team to Turin and beat Juve

HajdukSplit 12-03-2012 06:25 PM

I still think Chelsea has a chance, its not as impossible as the English media make you believe. Getting a result in Donestk is very difficult, its no guarantee that Juventus will even get a draw there

Anyway tomorrow's matches are mostly pointless, all the teams going to the knockout stage are determined. Only in Group A and Group B is first place yet to be decided (PSG vs. Porto will play for that honor head to head)

I think a manager's UCL record is slightly overrated when applying it to another team. He needs to work to get the team back to winning ways psychologically. I don't see the killer instinct like at the start of the season. They can't close out games, they make stupid mistakes and they are just not threatening in the opposition's box. They play long balls and deep crosses into the box, when none of the forward line can get to it. The strength of the current starting lineup is quick passes and pace, but they can't even manage that at this point. There is no plan B either. Mikel is awful at playing an offensive, flowing style of football. Ramires is just not good at building offensive plays from the back. You need someone with pinpoint precision and can be a true architect at the back. Mata, Hazard, Oscar and Torres can then try to get into open spaces and wreck havoc.

I want to be patient with this squad, but it's damn hard. At their peak they can take on any side. But individual players are just not showing up. Too many weak links

I'm not too worried about getting the win. That's expected. Anything less and it's a pathetic result. It's the other tie I'm worried about.

The good news is they are playing in Donetsk where Shakhtar are unbeaten since...forever. Hopefully they keep that alive and win. A draw would suit both teams just fine though, which is why I'm worried.

Can't blame him. Guys like Arteta and Cazorla have played almost every minute and have needed a rest for weeks. Podolski finally got a rest for the first time this season against Everton. Can't afford to sit these guys in league play. I don't expect Schalke to drop points aginst Montpellier again.

Europa League is an easier route to another silverware. But with this team, nothing is really easy.

United and City fans and players would've said the same thing, but that didn't work out too well.

On top of that, having to play ties on a Thursday with games sometimes played on Saturday that same week. And travelling further than usual in some cases.

Conditions in Zagreb game are terri-bad.

He hasn't scored today?

Or is that before today's game?

Olympiacos draw level :D

Shrimper 12-04-2012 03:06 PM

Kiev scored with practically their first shot on goal. Would appreciate another from them.

HajdukSplit 12-04-2012 03:13 PM

I tried watch the game in Zagreb, too hard to even see whats going on

I knew Schalke would find a way to blow first place, though Olympiakos are helping them at the moment
