Only one blue in the top 50 NHL players?

Just found this on cbs, thoughts?

Backes and Pietrangelo are both on there. Backes is 43, Petro 45. Backes is probably right, I think Petro could be a little higher. After next season, he will be.

bleedblue1223 12-04-2012 12:59 PM

Backes and Pietrangelo made it, even though Pietrangelo should have been A LOT higher, and I think Backes should have been a little higher as well.

Thekidline 12-04-2012 01:06 PM

I feel like backes and petro should be in the 30s

PocketNines 12-04-2012 01:34 PM

Sort of silly to see Pietrangelo so low. The dude is completely in the conversation for best d-man in the entire NHL.

The bigger the market a player performs in, the more likely he is to be seen as a Top 50 (or whatever) player. St. Louis is in "flyover country," so players like Backes and Pietrangelo -- who are among the best in hockey at their positions -- will be overlooked in favor of players on big-market and/or high-profile clubs.

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was...

Kopitar at #8 is the most laughable thing about that list.

bluesfan94 12-04-2012 04:11 PM

Pietrangelo should easily be either in the 20s or teens judging by who's there.

I didn't even get that far. Ovechkin at #4? Seriously? Ovie's really gone downhill the last few years. He's nowhere close to the same player he used to be.

This list seemed to be based a lot on name recognition.

Pie is definitely too high. The more success the Blues have the more recognition individual players will receive.

David Backes is not among the best centers in hockey.

Overall? I'd argue against that.

Yes. David Backes is not really a #1 center.

Yeah, more of a 1A/1B type, a fantastic player, but he is best when his line isnt the top scoring threat for our team. Perhaps Im splitting hairs and he is, but he is certainly among the top 30 centers in the NHL.

Written by a blogger from Pittsburgh...surprised he even remembered there was a Western Conference comprised of teams that aren't named Red Wings, Blackhawks, Kings or from Canada.
