Clowes Line 12-06-2012 08:35 AM

Miller's goals at 2:20 and 3:00. Wow, what an incredible goal that second one was...

Screw You Rick Nash 12-07-2012 11:25 PM

I guess it made no difference that I missed the Minnesota game, since Skjei wasn't playing. Is there WJC camps going on or something?

Edit - Apparently he was a healthy scratch..

E Nixson 12-08-2012 12:44 AM

St. Croix was scoreless and a -3 in his loss tonight

Noreau scoreless in his loss

McColgan's team plays tomorrow.

Rangers CHL prospect class is rather thin this year. It isn't that big of a deal with the depth they have in the NCAA and Sweden but it would still be nice to have a player or two in the OHL.

Nice to see Thomas and Miller on the same line and getting on the board.

RangerBoy 12-08-2012 04:59 AM

Minnesota has too many D. Mark Alt was a healthy scratch last week. Other D have sat. It was Brady Skjei's turn to sit.

ecemleafs 12-08-2012 05:26 AM

was minn planning on some players on D leaving early or did they just overcommit to players?

Jabroni 12-08-2012 07:55 AM

I love the schedule idea.

They recruited Skjei and Reilly. Both players knew Minnesota was returning their upper classmen D.

@ND_Hockey: Another goal! This time it's 26 Fogarty with the tally. Assists from 15 Schneider and 5 Russo

Screw You Rick Nash 12-08-2012 09:09 PM

Brady Skjei is not having a great game.

HatTrick Swayze 12-08-2012 09:40 PM

If Skjei played a minute in the 2nd period I'd be shocked.

He did when he got Wilcox hit, fanned his shot for the second time, and turned over the puck. After that I don't remember seeing him. I can't see him playing in the third, but that's probably obvious.

Edit - Forget it. He's on the ice right now.

ColonialsHockey10 12-08-2012 10:08 PM

Obviously you have to honor a players commitment to a program, but the Rangers can't be happy seeing their 1st round pick investment spending half of his time in the pressbox.

HatTrick Swayze 12-08-2012 10:44 PM

Well I voiced my opinion about the U of M in the draft thread. I think it's among the worst run programs in the NCAA. For having their pick of the litter of every single MN player they should have a bit more success to show for it. I don't think they develop players well.

That said, the gaffes Skjei made tonight were not the result of coaching. That's on him. I just hope he can find a way to correct them.

E Nixson 12-08-2012 11:04 PM

Shane McColgan got an assist in his teams win.

Same thing with San Croix. Assist in his teams win.

Sammy Noreau got 2 assists in his teams win.

They have a poor reputation, no? Always have in recent years unless I'm mistaken.

I didn't see tonights game, but Skjei is everything I want in a defenseman. He's huge, skates like the wind and has very impressive hockey IQ. There aren't defensemen in the game today that have all 3 of these aspects and are unsuccessful. I've watched Skjei and while I don't quite see the McDonagh-skating comparisons (one poster made a John Carlson analogy, which I think makes much more sense) I see exactly what makes Girardi, Staal and McDonagh thrive. They're geniuses on the ice and are mobile to some degree. I had no knowledge of Brady before the draft, but when I read his scouting report I knew we had a future NHL player. Whether he's a Ranger or not, he will make the show and have some success. USA would be making a huge mistake leaving him off of their roster. He's 100% capable of handling the competition. Mike Rielly's (just one example) offense looks good on paper but he cannot play as important as a role of Skjei. USA thrived on their mobile, defensively capable defensemen the year they won the tournament. Fowler was a stud defensively in the WJC in 2010, as was Carlson. Lashoff made a lasting impression as well. That's how you win.

E Nixson 12-10-2012 12:06 AM

McColgan was the only Rangers CHL prospect that played tonight. He got a goal and an assist in his teams 7-0 win over Regina.

SoftEuro4thLiner 12-10-2012 02:52 AM

Lindbergh scored a goal Saturday. Fasth seems to have lost a bit of his step after his injury.

nyr2k2 12-10-2012 08:38 AM

Stats have been updated.

One interesting note is that Dane Fox, talented UDFA forward, made his season debut this weekend. He's one to watch as a potential signing.

NYR Viper 12-10-2012 08:48 AM

Noreau still carrying on strong. Hope he is the Rangers new Diamond in the Rough. I have had high hopes for him since his draft year but even I did not expect this kind of offense from the big guy.

Barnaby 12-10-2012 09:01 AM

Skjei was mediocre at best the other night. I was hoping that I'd at least be impressed by his physical tools, but I found myself not being thrilled at all about the entire package. It was a VERY small sample size, but I found myself wishing that CBJ took that 1st round pick and left us our spot in the 2013 draft. I'm hoping that he makes the WJC's and that my opinion changes. If the NYR are forced to deal Gabby after this season for salary cap issues, then I hope they can slide back into the 1st round.

For what it's worth, Saturday was the worst game I've seen him play all year (seen him about 10 times).

Fasth needs to pick it up.

I think the pts will come looking at the line he plays right now. He should have had 2 goals in the game I saw the other night.

But he needs to play better. I saw that besides his shoulder injury, he has been forced to take penicillin twice this fall and he has struggled some with a flu that won't let go of him.

Its not for a developing kid like that to not have things go his way so to speak. A broken leg is followed by a broken nose and a shoulder injury and then he is bugged with a flu for a couple of month's... The drive isn't really here in his skating.

Barnaby 12-10-2012 10:41 AM

Interesting stat: Jakub Petruzalek is currently 4th overall in KHL scoring - 1 point behind Evgeni Malkin. Tomas Zaborsky is currently 13th overall.

It goes to show that these guys really did have ability when they were drafted - they just didn't pan out for whatever reason (most likely size/strength). It also shows the differences in these leagues when you see these smaller offensive guys light it up, and a guy like Evander Kane never quite puts it together.

I doubt it ever happens, but I'd love to see the champions from the NHL/KHL face off in a 5-7 game series a few weeks after the season ends. Liability/lack of player interest probably means that we'll never see it though...
