Favorite Ozzy guitarist?

Gotta love Rhoads, but I'm also a big fan of Jake E Lee. Was close to choosing him, but gotta go with the classics that Rhoads produced.

BonMorrison 12-07-2012 09:43 AM

Rhoads is a legend.

Ozz 12-07-2012 09:48 AM

Zakk, but that's not say I believe he's a better guitarist than Randy. I got into Ozzy when No More Tears came out, and that album is a masterpiece IMO. Still my absolute favorite album to this day.

Rhoads was so much better than anyone really. Technically and creatively. And Wylde is very, very good at both but Randy was on another level. We will never know what could have been.

I'm going to interpret this as "favorite guitarist to play in a band with Ozzy," so the answer is obviously Tony Iommi.

Smelling Salt 12-07-2012 11:07 AM

Jake.

I like his style more, and he has some beastly videos on YT ripping it up live.

Rhoads was obviously a great player, but the horrible guitar sound on those Ozzy albums kills it for me.

And:

Brad Gillis (great player)
Joe Holmes

I saw some of those performance vids last week, what an on-stage presence he had.

Absolutely. Beast of a player and a rock star on stage as well.

Was there any reason for why Ozzy canned him? All I found on wikipedia was that it came to him out of the blue.

That's the modus operandi of Sharon Osbourne. Don't try to understand.

But it likely had to do with royalties/songwriting credit. Ozzy, through Sharon, has a long history of ripping off his bandmates. And the re-recorded versions of his old albums are a huge part of this.

Randy Rhodes was the most dynamic and the other guys, while good they lack the creativity that Rhodes brought to the table

Oh snap someone is going to want to change their vote! :naughty:

beowulf 12-07-2012 02:08 PM

Can't vote right now but Randy by a mile. I really like Zakk but Randy was such a special talent and the world truly misses his ability.

always thought it was him.

NewtJorden 12-07-2012 02:28 PM

Randy Rhoads

And since this poll is coming out heavily one-sided (as I and I'm sure many imagined)...

Who is your least favorite?

Myself, I cannot stand Zakk Wylde. The only song of his I genuinely like is "Miracle Man." But for the most part his playing irritates me.

I liked Zakk up to and including No More Tears. After that, his playing just go too comical to me.

<Ozzy> Let me see your cigarette lighters!
<Zakk> PINCH HARMONIC PINCH HARMONIC PINCH HARMONIC
<OZZY> (something unintelligible)
<Zakk> PINCH HARMONIC PINCH HARMONIC PINCH HARMONIC

Very cool shaped guitar. I had a Dinky style, but replaced it this year in a trade.

Riverdale 12-07-2012 04:41 PM

Randy > Jake > all others

Ozz 12-07-2012 04:42 PM

Least favorite would have to go one of the touring guitarists, i.e. Gus G, Brad Gillis. I got to meet Joe Holmes years ago and he was the coolest guy so I can't vote against him even though he probably has the least to offer on his Ozzy resume. I'm sure the others are great people as well but they didn't meet me ;) I've met Iommi, Zakk (a bunch of times), and Ozzy as well while I'm at it...

Bark at the Moon is one of my favorite Ozzy songs so even though I probably listen to the rest of that album and most of The Ultimate Sin the least from Ozzy's catalog, there's no way I can vote against Jake either.
