HFBoards Mock Draft 2013

Don't know if this has been done before, but it's a long lockout so I decided I'd try it. I ran a lottery simulation a while back and came up with a draft order which can be seen here. I decided that instead of coming up with a mock draft myself I would have the fans of each team vote on their pick. I'll post the collective results once every fanbase has voted.

Anaheim has the #3 pick. Thus far only Aleksander Barkov and Nathan Mackinnon have been selected. Who do you think the Ducks should draft?

Gliff 12-07-2012 02:56 PM

Trade down and let someone else take Jones. With the Swedish movement I can see the Ducks taking Lindholm.

I would be ok with any of the top 6 honestly.

Maybe a Mod can turn this into an actual poll??

quentez 12-07-2012 03:22 PM

I'm thinking Seth Jones. Would give us a totally wild core of young defensemen (Fowler, Sbisa, Lindholm, Jones, Vatanen).

Shinkaruk back together with Etem in the future is also a thought.

Shinkaruk is petite. I mean I wouldn't mind him at #7 (assuming Mack, Jones, Barkov, Monahan, Lindholm, and Drouin have all been selected)

The correct answer is Sean Monahan or Seth Jones. I know take BPA, but our defensive core is solid and a player like Monahan won't be such an easy grab for us in later drafts. He's got Jonathan Toews in him and we need a player like that on this team.

Would've liked Barkov though.

Elias Lindholm wouldn't be a bad pick either.

Paul4587 12-07-2012 03:57 PM

Jones. Always take BPA and while our D looks pretty good for the future, we don't have a guy with his type of skillset back there.

Exit Dose 12-07-2012 05:59 PM

Jones.

I didn't make it a poll to leave it as wide open as possible. If a mod wants to make a poll that's up to them

JabbaJabba 12-08-2012 02:28 AM

Jones if Barkov and Mackinnon are gone. I can make a poll for this.

Mackinnon and Barkov are taken. Go

DuckJet 12-08-2012 05:01 AM

Want Monahan but BPA is Jones

Gliff 12-08-2012 05:04 AM

BPA or trade down: Jones.

JabbaJabba 12-08-2012 07:09 AM

Just think about this defence in few years:

Jones-Fowler
Sbisa-Lindholm
Beauchemin-Vatanen

PP1: Vatanen-Fowler
PP2: Lindholm-Jones

PK1: Jones-Sbisa
PK2: Beauchemin-Lindholm

Anyway you put it, it's a pretty nice lineup. Would be impossible to keep them all though but replacing Beauchemin with Clark could give them more time together.

Kalvinators 12-08-2012 08:25 AM

Monahan

DKQ 12-08-2012 09:57 AM

I think it's gotta be Jones. He's the best prospect in the draft from my perspective, just so much talent and raw physical ability. Getting him at 3 would be a Fowler-level steal for the Ducks, and the pairing of them would instantly be among the top 15 or so in the NHL, at an average age of 21

Kalvinators 12-08-2012 10:30 AM

Us getting the #3 pick would be a steal

Vinegar Strokes 12-08-2012 11:11 AM

Only players I'd pick ahead of Jones are Mackinnon and Barkov, so this is pretty easy.
If we get the #3 pick, this lockout won't leave such a bad taste in my mouth. Though the fact that it looks like we'll be robbed of watching Selanne take the ice again, is a bit much to bear.

DuckJet 12-08-2012 03:25 PM

Hell. I wouldn't mind the lockout at all if we got a top 6 pick and managed to keep Getzlaf and Perry.

snarktacular 12-08-2012 06:55 PM

Jones is probably the obvious pick. But the Ducks have rarely taken the obvious pick.

The other thing is here is a raw, toolsy kind of guy. In order to pan out he would need to harness his physical gifts. I feel like the majority of their recent picks have been the opposite type. Although Etem kind of resembles that.

Fowler was the obvious pick, too. If you saw that draft board they had written up, the top 3 were the obvious choices. I think it's outside of that where you start to see the craziness. Then again, this draft year is all over the place with talent.

RJQuack 12-08-2012 10:51 PM

Trade the pick. Some teams jaws would drop at the chance to select Jones #3 overall, so milk it for all it's value and try and get Monahan or Lindholm at #5/6.

DKQ 12-09-2012 11:04 PM

So it looks like the Ducks are going to go with Seth Jones. Thanks for everyone who came out and shared their opinion. I'll post the full results in the prospect forum once every team has voted.

But Jones could be the next Weber...

Elvs 12-10-2012 03:18 AM

I don't know anything about these guys tbh, I usually don't care much about the upcoming draft until a month or two before it's taking place when the scouting reports are at their most accuracte. I just know that Elias Lindholm is the most hyped young SEL foward since Nicklas Backstrom.

Jones-Fowler, the next Weber-Suter? :sarcasm:

TheFatOne 12-10-2012 07:00 AM

Elias Lindholm. Nicklas Backstrom clone with a mean streak and strong physical game.
