Good replacement for A-Rod

Kershaw 12-11-2012 05:12 PM

Well this is..... interesting.

Taro Tsujimoto 12-11-2012 05:23 PM

And all of Red Sox Nation just burned their Youk jerseys.

IslesRock4 12-11-2012 05:23 PM

I'm happy.

BPR* 12-11-2012 05:29 PM

Had no other choice at this point.

he sucks now. no one cares.

Blackhawkswincup 12-11-2012 05:48 PM

Seems like good guy but he faded badly in final month of year when Sox needed him

12M for 1 yr is too rich

GIN ANTONIC 12-11-2012 05:58 PM

12 mil for Youk?

I'm conflicted here. One the one hand, the Yankees definitely needed someone who could play 3rd base (and serve as the right hand side of a DH platoon once A-Rod comes back.) Youk was probably the best option left.

On the other hand, he's not a very good hitter anymore, he's even more injury prone than A-Rod, and I hate his stupid whiny ****ing face. So there's that.

Scandale du Jour 12-11-2012 07:09 PM

Can play 1st and 3rd base and can be used as a DH. Too much money for a declining guy, but it is only one year. Not a bad pick up.

At worse, he doesn't work out and he's gone next year anyway.

darko 12-11-2012 07:19 PM

Would rather have Reynolds but oh well. Hope Youk hits like a 2012 Chicago version and not 2012 Boston version.

the fans who consider themselves part of "red sox nation" should just jump in the fire.

Peace shall be made with an old enemy. Such is the way.

BCS 12-11-2012 08:19 PM

Cool. Hopefully Youk comes remotely close to Bill James' incredibly optimistic 2013 projection (.265/.371/.465). If so, he'll be a steal.

Damn. My head is telling me that he's a 34 year old whose skills scream "poor aging curve" though, so I don't trust that too much. I'll concede that Bill James knows more about baseball than I do though.

Most importantly: if they give Youk #20, I will burn something.

That's basically 2011 Youk when he was a 3.7 WAR player.

I think most of them did in september.....Or they just started wearing their Pats and Celtics gear....

Made Dan 12-11-2012 09:12 PM

Was probably the best option left (speaks levels about the market) but gonna take awhile to get used to.

seafoam 12-11-2012 09:59 PM

They should have kept Martin instead and put him at third base.

I wouldn't go that far, but I am about to be physically ill

*Bob Richards* 12-11-2012 10:44 PM

I'm alright with this. Good player.

SPV 12-12-2012 11:55 AM

As a Sox fan, I can say that I'm completely indifferent to this signing. I liked Youk while he was here; but he definitely seemed to be on the decline. Perhaps he has a resurgence in New York. Ever since we won a few championships; I'm not bothered by the Yankees and their fans like I used to be.

I think it's a good signing for them, probably for too much, but the Yanks & Sox can afford to overpay per year. I expect that he'll bounce back a little bit this year.
