Kevin Love's future in Minnesota

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--ke...200009299.html

Quote:

For everyone else still stunned over the Minnesota Timberwolves' owner and general manager downright daring the franchise's best player to leave for free agency in two years, Kevin Love promises to be a professional, promises All-Star performance and productivity. Over the organization's refusal to designate him as the cornerstone, though, there come no promises of forgiveness from Love. No assurance it won't chase him out the door and out of the franchise forever someday.

"I don't know who labels people stars, but even [T'wolves owner] Glen Taylor said: I don't think Kevin Love is a star, because he hasn't led us to the playoffs," Love told Yahoo! Sports. "I mean, it's not like I had much support out there.

"That's a tough pill to swallow."

No, Kevin Love isn't over Taylor and GM David Kahn refusing him what he had earned. He isn't over Kahn marching into the trainer's room after a loss and thrusting a contract offer sheet into his hands. Where else does it work that way in the NBA? "I'm not the one to always follow professional protocol but I do know what it is, even at 24 years old," Love says.
Some of these quotes are crazy.

I wonder if this means we'll see the Kevin Love sweepstakes soon. I think we will.

Minnesota would be incredibly stupid to leave a player like him walk. It seems they aren't treating him well either, it will get interesting.

Love to the Knicks please

Fits right in with the Timberwolves motto, "What's basketball?"

Even if the team bent over backwards for Love, I'd still bet that he'd walk for sunnier pastures. This essentially seals the deal.

He's shooting below .400 and he's a mediocre at best defender. He's not playing like a star.

He has some real skills, best rebounder in the league, and one of the best stretch fours in the league. But he's a sub par defender who doesn't command double teams. He really isn't a true star.

Vamos Rafa 12-12-2012 01:41 PM

His career FG% would be considered good if he was a wing player or a PG.

Live in the Now 12-12-2012 01:42 PM

Love is a stat compiler, I have no idea if a team can play winning basketball with him. Don't think he's a star.

Jussi 12-12-2012 01:49 PM

He's just missing Ricky Rubio setting him up for easy baskets. When is Rubio expected back by the way?

Avs_19 12-12-2012 02:57 PM

The top players at power forward are (not in order): Love, Bosh, Aldridge, Griffin, Gasol, and Randolph.

None of those guys are true superstars and none of them can win on their own but they're all great players. Love isn't a great defensive player but neither are those other players listed above. I'm sure if you swap Love for anyone other than Aldridge, those teams would still be able to play winning basketball. He is one of the best at his position and he's also the best thing the Wolves have had since KG left. They were stupid to not give him a 5 year deal and I still can't believe they agreed to let him opt out after 3 years.

edit: Don't know if Duncan is back at PF but if he is, you can throw him in there. Unlike those other players, he's actually a good defensive player as well.

But he's the face of team white supremacy

He is a complimentary star, a la Chris Bosh. He warrants the respect and the money though, and proved that last year with the Wolves, and with Team USA.

You forgot Dirk. I don't know what is going on with his health, but he is probably the only true superstar at the PF position.

As for Love, he is over-rated but still a very good player. Great on the glass, and he can stretch the floor. I wouldn't trust him to be my go-to offensive player though.

But he's not. The key to scoring bigs is that they have a higher FG%.

There was some rubbish not that long ago with some civil rights activists in Minnesota calling out the Wolves for being racist and creating such a white team.

I made a thread about it, not sure where it went.

Anyway, Love is amazing, but he kinda reminds me a bit of a PF version of Rondo, minus a bit of the attitude. Whether it's an assist streak or a double-double streak it doesn't matter. Any team in the league would love to have him (pardon the pun) but he isn't a guy that'll straight up win you a championship on his own.

Also, OT, I think David Lee should be getting mentioned in all y'all's "Top PF" lists

Unless there's a last minute change, Saturday v. Dallas.

Great opportunity for the Bulls. Boozer's contract runs out after the 2014/15 season.

So they replace him with the vanilla version?

McSorleyStick 12-31-2012 09:23 PM

Hopefully he ends up in a team that is good enough so he wont be stat padding in garbage time

Think of all those "great" 20/20 games he has had... his team has already lost the game but he stays on the court vs scrubs who jack up shots

lol

While I do agree with you that he somewhat pads his stats in meaningless games it's also important to point out that last season his numbers were better when Minny won. And it's not like Wolves have been blowing teams away.

If he hates it in Minnesota, I'm sure he'll love it in Toronto!:sarcasm:

He's obviously heading to LA in a few years. Only a matter of time.

Porn* 01-02-2013 08:56 PM

what's wrong with Toronto? It's a world class city with a solid young and up n coming team.

The problem with Toronto is that it's basketball...
