Your tough minutes LH D to Jets

Quick story to set up the scenario for non-Jet fans.

I like Byfuglien. He is really an effective D, especially for the ~40 games paired up beside a quality guy like Enstrom. I think the Jets will eventually be looking to move him when/if Bogosian and Trouba develop to a strong 1-2 punch for the right side.

That said, I see the Jets future top4 as:
Enstrom - Bogosian <- high QoC with high OZS
??? - Trouba <- high QoC with high DZS

So, I'm looking for someone to fill that ??? as a #4.
Requirements are:
*relatively young (as this scenario takes place 3-4 years down the road)
*plays left side
*defensively stron
Does not need offensive prowess or crazy good... we're talking about a #4 shutdown guy.

I understand that the Jets aren't a great trading partner, as usually you trade away areas of excess depth for areas of need... and the Jets don't have much in excess except:
*trade deadline rentals (Hainsey, Antropov, Ponikarovsky, Wellwood)
*bottom 6 prospects (Machacek, Maxwell, Klingberg, Cormier)
*RH PMD 2nd-3rd pairing tweeners with PPQB prospects (Postma, Redmond, Clitsome[technically not a prospect but his ability is there])
....but just curious :P

EDIT:
I'm not talking about constrained to those guys... Just mentioned those are the most movable pieces.

I feel like this screams Andrej Sekera. But nobody from that list really catches my eye. What do you offer?

mstad101 12-16-2012 02:20 AM

This thread scream Ballard for Antropov.

TBH I'm not sure if he'd get to that level. It's possible, but most scouts still put Melchiori higher in our prospect pool for upside and he's even not 100%.
Plus, I don't like putting all my eggs in one basket.
Plus, plus, this is more of a time killer for me to read out of interest in breaks between studying. :P

Well I don't know your team that well or your prospect pool so I'm terrible for knowing Buffalo's (or other teams needs)<I have a bit of tunnel vision for the Jets>. I'm more curious of what other think they have available and/or want.

What I guess is most would either go one of two ways:

Package A: LHD for a package of one/two of those in the list above + a pick or two (middle rounds)

Package B: LHD + a promising 2nd line C or RW who is already decently proven for Byfuglien (given that this is 2-3 years in the future and Buff's value probably gone down a tiny bit)

Yep, first thing that came to my mind. Nothing OP is offering is enticing at all though.

Korbinian Holzer makes a lot of sense to me.

aqsw 12-16-2012 04:04 AM

I agree with waiting for Yuen.

Paradise 12-16-2012 05:17 AM

I think the Jets would be better off looking for a veteran presence in FA.

FanHabtic 12-16-2012 07:10 AM

Francis bouillon comes to mind

DJOpus 12-16-2012 07:12 AM

Jason Garrison for Andrew Ladd (no not serious...but Garrison is one of the top tough minute defenseman and the Canucks are a little overloaded on LD).

He said this takes place 3-4 years down the road.

Bouillon is 35.

Thirded. I'd love Burmistrov, but that's all sorts of never going to happen.

seafoam 12-16-2012 10:27 AM

What is wrong with four very good defenseman even if three out of four are right handed?

SMantzas 12-16-2012 10:35 AM

Andy Greene?

vokiel 12-16-2012 10:39 AM

I'd say Emelin, but your team is just lacking in terms of value I'd see useful in a habs lineup. How about 2 1st? ;)

Flames rebuilder 12-16-2012 11:37 AM

Winnipeg-
Chris Butler
Greg Nemisz

Calgary-
Paul Postma
Patrice Cormier

I wouldn't mind having Buff in Buff

In terms of value, I have to think that the difference between Sekera and Buff is not very big at all. Sekera is a do-it-all defenseman; he can play shutdown D, great skater, great passer, and can play big minutes, while Buff can be a big-bodied offensive dynamo. They also make exactly the same salary.

When prospects like Pysyk and McNabb become full time NHL-ers, Sekera could become expendable, but I would not add much to get Big Buff. Maybe a mid-round pick. Or Gerbe, but then Jets would also have to add.

AfroThunder396 12-16-2012 12:42 PM

Henrik Tallinder for Patrice Cormier

glenbuis 12-16-2012 12:46 PM

the notion of subban in winnipeg looks good but it would require bogosian.

Not only is Subban not on the market but he is also RH so he doesn't even fit the requirement.

Cormier is not needed. I wouldn't mind seeing a Tallinder for Antropov trade, but Antropov is a UFA at years end.

CommanderShepard15 12-16-2012 08:56 PM

Doug Murray for Patrice Cormier?

PensBandwagonerNo272 12-16-2012 09:00 PM

Yeah, that's what I would say too. But I really don't like the idea of trading Sekera...so it would have to be an overpayment along those those lines.
