2013 World Junior Championships Thread

I know we had another WJC thread, but that one was for Wotherspoon making Team Canada. We don't have a general WJC thread up yet, so I thought I would create one.

Where it is being played: Ufa, Russia.
Where you can find the game: TSN; NHL Network
How long the tournament is: December 26-January 5. However, there will be preliminary game before the 26th.

Anyways, here is a rundown on all of the teams going to the tournament.

Good idea for a thread as for as camp goes today the US had
Sieloff - Trouba as the top pairing and
Gaudreau-Grimaldi-Miller as the first/2nd line

also Finland has been practicing with

Lehkonen-Barkov-Haapala
Aaltonen-Teräväinen-Ikonen
Granlund-Salomäki-Armia

as its top 9

StreakingRed 12-17-2012 07:01 PM

Well done, sir.

Go Canada!

Flames92 12-17-2012 07:21 PM

Well i guess us viewers in the east are gona have to pull some all nighters. Either way im excited! gona look closely at the flames players on Canada,USA,Finland

Johnny Hoxville 12-17-2012 07:49 PM

Awesome job on the thread!! This tourny is gonna be sick and loaded with talent. Can't wait to watch it.

tyflames 12-17-2012 11:12 PM

I may have not been following all too closely but how did our prospects that were trying out for the U.S. make out? Did they all make the preliminary roster?

Edit: I see my question has now been answered in the post.

YMCMBYOLO 12-18-2012 05:42 PM

Just so everyone knows, the USA will be announcing their rosters on the 22nd.

Either way, I'm fairly confident that Canada will be a top contender for the WJC.

Here is what I see:

1. Canada
2. Russia
3. Finland
4. USA
5. Sweden
6. Czech Republic

In all honesty, I think 3-6 will be super close, I think any of those could medal.

YMCMBYOLO 12-20-2012 05:14 PM

Canada loses 3-2 to Finland. I'm not getting too worried as the players may have Jet-lag, plus the reffing was absolutely horrible.

Sean Monahan 12-20-2012 06:05 PM

seemed like Wotherspoon still needs to get used to the big ice because his gap control was pretty bad

He had a real rough game as did Subban, but on the other hand Granlund was probably the second best player for Finland.

Flames92 12-20-2012 08:58 PM

What do you guys think of Sieloff's game vs the swedes?

Armia is unreal, no shame :P

Solid as expected but didn't stand out but that might be a good thing as a defensive player.

Salomaki too. That line will do some damage behind the Barkov line

I'm not 100% sure but I think the game was played on a small rink since SM-Liiga uses NHL type rink size.

tfong 12-20-2012 10:05 PM

I don't understand why Brossiot was cut and Subban the starter.

I didnt see anything from the training camp but sportsnet said he was arguably the best goalie in camp.

I read that Brossoit had a good camp as well. I think his stats previous to camp is what decided it. Also I have a feeling the goaltending was determined before camp even started.

Apparently I am mistaken, I was going off what someone on the board told me/posted.

He didn't have a great summer camp but was the second best statistical goalie at the final evaluation camp he seemed like he never had a shot and was invited to even out the goalies in camp.

Thats what I heard on the fan 960 too, they said he had a great camp and when told him it had nothing to do with his camp.

So obviously some politics involved here likely.
