Brian Wilde Said On TSN Radio

That Gauthier wanted a defenseman in the first round of the 2006 draft whereas Timmins wanted to draft Giroux.

Imagine if Gauthier wasn't fired and he was at the draft this year. Do you think we'd have had such an awesome draft?

habs03 12-18-2012 01:36 PM

Shows how much of a liar Wilde is..

Grant Mckegg(sp), former habs scout who posts on here, said it was one of the scouts that pushed Timmins on Fischer.

2 Chainz 12-18-2012 01:37 PM

Brian Wilde doesn't know ****, if this was true Lavoie or MAG would've known by now and reported it.

Another bs post, there was another atritcle this summer that said Timmins was the one that asked Gauthier to trade up so they could get Tinordi. That control freak Gauthier!!!!!!!!!!

In on thread backfire

Roulin 12-18-2012 02:00 PM

I remember reading that Timmins didn't like Giroux's skating.

Andy 12-18-2012 02:10 PM

lol every year depending on who the habs fans and media hate, the discourse around this draft changes.

When everyone was in their Timmins bashing phase and people still liked Gainey people posted that Gainey wanted Giroux and Timmins pushed for Timmins.

Now that people dislike Gainey and Gauthier, the person who "pushed" for Fischer flips every year other week. Now some weeks it's Gainey that pushed for Fischer, other weeks it's Gauthier.

Grant McKagg posted here that a scout went to bat for Fischer that year and that the scout is no longer with the team (for unrealted reasons).

Watsatheo 12-18-2012 02:15 PM

Gauthier helped this team reach heights this team never was able to reach before. He should be tanked for Galchenyuk since we don't likely get #3 pick in a draft without him.

Sounds like ********. Some will leave no stone unturned to blame Gauthier but he hasn't exactly left Bergevin with a mess despite last year's crap year.

Actually the scout is still with the team, and he coached Fischer in minor hockey and went to bat for him in terms of his character and potential having coached him. Timmins really liked Giroux..but he liked Fischer as well....he wouldn't have drafted him in the first round if he didn't think he was a future NHLer. Timmins was hoping to get a crack at Giroux in the second round with the two picks they had...they traded down from 16 to 20 with San Jose IIRC.

FF de Mars 12-18-2012 03:30 PM

Gauthier left Anaheim the same way he left Montréal. Let's hope Bergevin can win a cup like Burke did. It sucks we didn't draft Giroux, but you can't think like that in life. We wouldn't have Galchenyuk then.

Thanks for clearing that up Greg. Also thanks for clarifying that he's still with the team.

Yup Habs traded down..

logical guess would be the scout is Pat Westrum and Minni guy who is an Amateur Scout - Western USA (habs site).

patsbury 12-18-2012 03:45 PM

From what I remember, Timmins wanted to draft a defenceman because he didn't like our depth at this position at the time. In short, he didn't go for the best player available, but he no way it means it was Giroux. The only things we can know for sure is, Fisher wasn't the BPA when came our turn... I cannot find a quote (or a link), I believe he [Timmins] said it himself to Leroux on RDS

Given the interview with Timmins in late summer where he explained that he suggested that Gauthier trade up in the draft to acquire Tinordi since he was high on him, I would say yes.

Quote:

but Timmins recognized his potential and convinced former general manager Pierre Gauthier to move up in the draft to get the defenceman.

Lavoie? You mean the guy that takes TSN reports, translates them into french, and puts his name next to them?

You are way off base. I don't like him but I can admit he's an excellent reporter.

And he's usually the first guy with info on twitter.

He's the first guy with info in french. Try to observe this in the next couple of weeks.
I'll keep track and post examples if you guys want.

The TSN panel gave him props a few weeks ago for his journalism.

TheCanasianfrasian 12-18-2012 04:12 PM

This. Gauthier did a few mistakes but did alot of good things also. There's no black or white in hockey, everyone makes mistakes and hits homeruns. You guys need to stop living in the past, what was done in 2006 is irrelevant since so much was done since then. You just can't say ''add Giroux to this line up and imagine how good we'd be'' because if you add Giroux, maybe Carbo isn't fired yet, maybe we do not draft MaxPac, we certainly can't draft gally. Deal with it seriously lol.

You do know he works for RDS, which is basically the french version of TSN...

So true, he is so full of it. Reminds me of that hockeybuzz guy.
