Pouliot vs. Koekkek vs. Trouba vs. Maatta

In order, which d-men is the best overall?

IMO:

Maatta
Trouba
Pouliot
Koekkoek

pigpen65 12-20-2012 08:23 PM

Maatta was extremely impressive vs Canada.

I agree with this bit Olli Maata have a great offensive potential then Trouba.
But it's like comparing Brian Leetch to Scott Stevens . WHo would you prefer, I say Scott Stevens since he does everything so well.

Trouba equal to Scott Steven
Maata equal to a lesser Brian leetch.

By the way Leetch is by far my fav D but I hated the way is career ended.

Who knows, way too early to say. I guess I'll go with:
1) Trouba
2) Pouliot
3) Maatta
4) Koekkoek

Pouliot
Maatta
Trouba
Koekkoek

Personally, there isn't a D in the last draft I'd take over Trouba. I think he's a better prospect than all of the D that were drafted before him.

I've only seen Derrick Pouliot a couple of times but he's been an absolute trainwreck. He's last on my list.

Note: I haven't seen Lindholm yet.

As for the actual question

1. Trouba
2. Maatta
3. Koekkoek
4. Pouliot

(I've only seen Koekkoek a couple of times. Same for Pouliot)

I never saw a Leetch comparison when I watched Maatta, I also dont really see the Stevens comparison for Trouba besides the odd hit.

That's a ballsy statement.

Maatta
Pouliot
Koekkoek

As a huge Scott Stevens fan, I have a particular affinity for Trouba. The fact that he got drafted by my favourite team makes my bias overwhelming. That said, I had Trouba, Maata and Murray - though not necessarily in that order - as the top three defensemen from 2012 draft. Nothing has really changed my mind a whole lot (though I do not know a ton about Hampus Lindholm...). I never liked Pouliot, and I like that pick even less now then I did on draft day. Koekkoek does not do much for me either.

If I had to rank them:

1) Trouba
2) Maata

Big, giant chasm

3) Koekoek
4) Pouliot

Sweech 12-21-2012 02:03 AM

I agree with the order:

Trouba
Maatta

Koekoek
Pouliot

Koekoek has actually been fairly impressive when I've seen him so far, however he's just not as good as Trouba or Maatta. Pouliot shows flashes, but his physicality and drive really disappear at times. I also don't think his offensive gifts are as great as others believe and even if they are he's a step behind all the other guys in the other facets of his game.

This... for now.

I also agree with the above poster. I would take Trouba first out of all the dmen. He just does everything well, and brings that nasty/hard to play against style to the backend.

stayinalive 12-21-2012 04:50 AM

Trouba
Pouliot
Maattaa
Koekkoek

Maatta is just fine player and all but he seems to lack footspeed, his skating looks even a little bit funny. If he only could skate and had some explosiveness he would be really good...

Trouba
Maatta
Pouliot

Maatta

Koekkek
Pouliot

Maatta is criminally underrated.

Jacko95 12-21-2012 10:04 AM

So what exactly makes Maatta better then Koekkoek? They have similar points, with the little difference that Maatta play on the best and koekkoek on the wearst team of the OHL and Koekkoek's -26 or so is no surprise to me as he plays 30min a game so he certainly has no chance to get a good +/-.

I would take Koekkoek over Maatta again.

If anything, Pouliot is, judging by most of these lists (says the homer Pens fan, I know). I'm also assuming here the OP is projecting into the future, even though he says who "is" the best d-men.
