Umm no thanks. Wouldn't want him for free, let alone giving up Sharp and Saad.

Riseonfire 12-23-2012 08:24 AM

Wow Chicago gets bent over in that one.

Crawford and Saad makes the value more even.

Only in the sense that the deal goes from horrifically bad to extremely bad for the Hawks. Fluery's is not a sufficient enough upgrade (if you can even really call him an upgrade) to be worth the Hawks giving up anything of value. Plus his cap hit is almost double Crawford's.

This^. I read a post a long while back that MAF was highest rated G in reflexes, etc. but he has not demonstrated skill level to consistently maintain that talent at a highest level.

zytz 12-23-2012 09:39 AM

Despite Fleury's crap-tastic playoffs he is an upgrade, but c'mon this is ridiculous.

sully1410 12-23-2012 09:57 AM

This deal is terrible. It would almost make sense if the pens were trading something else of value.

Phion Keneuf 12-23-2012 10:05 AM

Crawford + Saad for Fleury

Horrible value for Fleury.

Why is he so undervalued here? He's had ONE awful playoff, and that's when defense disappeared on BOTH sides.

Drew311 12-23-2012 10:10 AM

Obviously Chicago fans hate this deal, and rightly so. But realistically that is the kind of package it would take for Pittsburgh to trade Fleury. They would have absolutely no reason to move him unless it is for a severe overpayment.

One awful playoff? Fluery has only posted an above .900 SV% in the playoffs twice in his career and his numbers in the regular season are average at best. I'd much rather the Hawks take a chance on Crawford rebounding from last season then trade for a player whose numbers are only slightly better and makes twice. Suggesting that Saad or Sharp would be going the other way to facilitate the deal is just ridiculous.

TheRollingPuck 12-23-2012 10:42 AM

Crawford = Fleury (some might argue Crawford is better at this point)
Saad > Jeffrey
Sharp >>>> Kennedy.

This proposal is horrible for the Hawks.

Izzy 12-23-2012 10:49 AM

This would be the worst trade in recent years if it happened

The other ones were not good, except his second one. Go right ahead, but I think Fleury is a far better goalie. Look at his career statistics in the regular season too, not bad. Perhaps he's tired out in the playoffs? Vokoun could help with that.

EDIT: Before you use the fact that Crawford has slightly better stats, Fleury started right out of the Draft (I think) with a HORRIBLE Pens team. As well, the Pens have an inferior defence (in my opinion) to the Hawks, and they're in the high scoring east in the hardest division. Chicago is in the west in one of the next best divisions, but more defensive than the east.

Crawford has better career SP and GAA in the reg season (and playoffs) than Fleury anyway.

Check out my edit, I addressed exactly that.

Fleury isn't available.

People can say he sucks, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. He apparently isn't that bad of a goalie if he can lead his team to 2 SCF in a row and just last season be what 4th or 5th in Vezina voting? Yeah, reeeeally bad goalie Pittsburgh has between the pipes, lol.

The first SCF appearance this applies, the second it does not, and even then Crosby/Malkin/Hossa were all good/very good in Pittsburgh's run to the Final in 2008.

Fleury is an improvement on Crawford, maybe, but not a significant one. Take away his first full season in the NHL and his Sv% hovers around .912; Crawford's career Sv% is .910. Fleury's Sv% in the playoffs is .904; Crawford's is .911.. not to mention, outside of Fleury's 2008 playoffs, he goes to **** every year compared to his regular season play.

Then factor in how much he makes vs. Crawford and it's a gigantic pass from Chicago. I don't think I would do Crawford for Fleury straight up, never mind adding anything, never mind adding arguably Chicago's best prospect and a star player.

3rdlineglory 12-23-2012 12:42 PM

:shakehead Are you sure you're a Rangers fan? I certainly wouldn't want a division rival finally having a pair of quality wingers for both Malkin and Crosby. Not to mention their third line would be pretty awesome with Cooke-Sutter-Dupuis and they would still have a pretty good goalie tandem of Vokoun/Crawford.

Well you got one of these wrong and I would put another greater than for Saad. People don't realize how terrible this is for the Blackhawks.

Actually he was 7th-8th, with one third place vote (Probably a vote by Pittsburg GM). in shorts, its Nothing to to brag about!

1. Henrik Lundqvist, NYR 120 (17-11-2)
2. Jonathan Quick, L.A. 63 (6-9-6)
3. Pekka Rinne, NSH 42 (4-4-10)
4. Mike Smith, PHX 35 (2-5-10)
5. Brian Elliott, STL 5 (1-0-0)
6. Jaroslav Halak, STL 3 (0-1-0)
7. Marc-Andre Fleury, PIT 1 (0-0-1)
Miikka Kiprusoff, CGY 1 (0-0-1)

Kris Chreider 12-23-2012 02:40 PM

How exactly is Fleury a choker when he led a team that relied on their loaded offense to 2 SCFs? Ask yourself, could Pittsburgh have won a Cup with someone like Brent Johnson as their starter? MAF is their franchise goalie, this is what Shero would ask for. Kunitz would make the value more even though.

Mike Farkas 12-23-2012 03:57 PM

Team gives up 400 goals in a playoff series, acquires Corey Crawford...? I'll take my chances on Fleury, at least we've seen flashes of him being able to carry the bag...Crawford hasn't exactly been the pinnacle of goaltending even going back to his days in junior...

To be fair, he did pretty damn well in the 2011 playoffs vs. Vancouver. Took them to game 7 of overtime with some pretty spectacular saves.

Jesus Vitale 12-23-2012 05:43 PM

Pittsburgh would take this deal and run before the Blackhawks' owner has realized his GM has gone insane.

Crawford is moderately inferior to Fleury(IMO)
Sharp is vastly superior to Kennedy
and Saad will be as good or better than Jeffrey

The pens could afford to roll with Crawford and Vokoun for the short-term and then they could trade some of their young d-men in the future for a young goalie in the future if they feel they need one.
