MLB player salaries really make me sick

Fish on The Sand 12-23-2012 11:37 AM

I'm actually impressed with the Indians off-season. This is definitely their best off-season since the 2000 off-season where they picked up Juan Gonzalez and Marty Cordova. Will it be enough to win the division? Probably not, their starting pitching is still terrible, but at least they are trying and should be better than last season.

they only need 1 more player and then they will be world series contenders!

How so? This is very fair price for a borderline elite outfielder.

robert terwilliger 12-23-2012 02:49 PM

four years seems like too much for me.

plus losing a draft pick on a team that isn't really in the mix of things. by the time the indians are ready, one could argue that swisher will be well on the downside of things.

LOL what?!

We are ready RIGHT NOW. We are ready to COMPETE this upcoming season!

robert terwilliger 12-23-2012 03:03 PM

please enlighten me.

Machinehead 12-23-2012 03:20 PM

Good for you Nick. At least you won't have to worry about sucking in the playoffs over there.

robert terwilliger 12-23-2012 03:36 PM

btw, the contract has a vesting option that is based on plate appearances. if triggered, this contract is 5/70. swisher doesn't miss time, he's played 150 games in all but two years of his career (not counting his 20 game september callup in 2004).

DRWCountryClub 12-23-2012 03:46 PM

14 million for Nick Swisher... Wow.

Maybe.

But with rotation of Ubaldo, Masterson, Bauer, Talbot, Carrasco, Huff, Tomlin, Jeanmar Gomez, Kluber and McAllister that screams inconsistency and injuries and mediocrity? They must add another starter.

Genius move IMO.

They swap Choo for Swisher and add Bauer in the process. Wow is all I can say.

Not only losing a draft pick, but losing it for Nick Swisher.

I didn't understand the Jimenez trade and I wouldn't be surprised if this blows up in their face like that trade has.

Besides Raul Ibanez, the entire Yankees lineup sucked in the playoffs.

GoneFullHextall 12-23-2012 05:22 PM

Wonder how he does without the short porch at The Stadium.

Last year, yes. But Swisher sucked every year since he came here including the year we won the World Series.

That won't make even a tiny bit of difference. When Nick Swisher gets a hold of one it's gone in every stadium in major league baseball. This isn't a guy who hits wall-scrapers.

Meh - it's a second round draft pick. If they lost their first rounder, which is fifth, I would agree with you.

It's an industry that sets a new revenue record every year. Better the players than the owners.
