Underrated Goalie Prospects

Who are the goalie prospects that have star/starter potential that aren't really well known?

LV* 12-25-2012 05:01 PM

Spencer Martin.

AwesomePanthers 12-25-2012 05:13 PM

Sam Brittain.

I think he would have been Canadas starter last WJC if he wasn't injured.

Homer for Anton Forsberg? :dunno:

DKQ 12-25-2012 05:21 PM

Joonas Korpisalo
Petr Mrazek
Garrett Sparks

Massive homer here, and this guy has been a little meh in the minors this year, but Zoltan Hetenyi shocked me at prospect camp this past year. I went in expecting to watch Hellberg light the world on fire, and this guy stole the show. Crazy agressive. His style (not skill, style) reminded me of Tim Thomas. Signed an AHL deal with the Preds affiliate.

Just one fan's opinion, but I think he has some potential.

Based off what? His international play? Or do you watch him fairly regularly? Just curious, as a Sabres fan, since I've only seen him 3-4 times.

For once I'm not saying it  but yup, for sure him. I'd say Alex Fontions from the OHL too for draft eligibles.

A big homer vote to Joni Ortio. Playing on a terrible HIFK team and is really the only thing keeping the team together. Has played 31 games and has recorded a 2.15 GAA and .925 sv%. He didn't look all that great with Abbottsford last season but wasn't getting consistent starts and really wasn't ready. Hope he continues to do well and should make the jump back to the AHL once Irving goes to Calgary.... or somewhere else.

Campbell gets hated on a lot.

Bachman never gets talked about either, and I think he could end up being a top 20 starter.

Sparks doesn't impress me a whole lot. He makes desperation saves look easy and routine saves look difficult.

Matter of opinion I guess. I think he`s solid in key areas and the areas that need improvement could be addressed by a decent goalie coach.

As someone who's seen a lot of his games this season I agree with you, he's been very consistent and convincing. He strikes me as a goalie who needs a lot of starts to stay in shape, at least at this point in his development. If they don't intend to give him a fair chance in Abbotsford next season, they should let him stay in Finland.

Johan Gustafsson

Homer vote for Jussi Rynnas
Although he has been injured for most of the AHL season, and despite his underwhelming 2010-2011 season, he has played exceptionally well in the few games he has played this year.

GP - SO - SV% - GAA
6 -- 3 -- .939 -- 1.94

Again I know 6 games is extremely small sample size, but he has impressed in those games. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Almost any one of the Avs goalie prospects?

Pickard or Aittokallio or Patterson or even the long shot in Millan. All 4 of them are just starting their pro careers and are handling it quite well. Especially Pickard and Aittokallio in Lake Erie.

Working on his second consecutive season of sub 1.75 GAA and .930+ save% in the SEL.

ROY nominee last year.

Starting goalie for last years WJC gold medal winners.

Only 20 years old.

Maybe star potential for the AHL. Grumet-Morris isn't very good, and he's also 30.

Goalies careers are so unpredictable it's hard to say. Gustafson might be a good one but how underrated is he (besides his draft position)?

bigsick 12-25-2012 09:00 PM

Joe Cannata.

The fact he has been absolutely stellar in the SEL and could be another Lundqvist coming out, yes. Have you heard of him? What have you heard?

The fact that more people talk about Hackett and Kuemper than him, yes.

DJB 12-25-2012 10:26 PM

Gibson. Loved that kid in his draft year and has since exploded in the OHL and now for Team USA.
