Top 10 goalie prospects

Saw the thread on top 15 prospects and a few people were making goalie lists and got me wondering what everyone thought. I'm not counting Holtby. Mine would be something like

Lehner
Markstrom

Top 2 were easy, I think theyre the top 2 without much argument

Vasilevski - always impressed me when I've seen him.
John Gibson - great stats and has played in some big games
Mrazek - drafted late but took starting role next year and has tore ever since
Ben Bishop - guy was sought after at the deadline and has been a beast. Getting older though
Hackett
Lack
Allen
Subban

One noticeable omission is Campbell. Dont like him a whole lot as a prospect, needed a sport psychologist and hasnt done much but be a flake since being drafted. Think its funny how unpredictable goalies are, I would never take one in the first round unless theyre a bonafide top 5 type like Carey Price. Seems like 5th rounder are just as likely to turn out as a 1st round quality as a 1st rounder is

DuckJet 12-27-2012 04:35 PM

Can't argue with much of that list.

InjuredChoker 12-27-2012 05:32 PM

HMs; Janus, Gustafsson for me.

tfong 12-27-2012 05:35 PM

No Brossiot?

I know us Wild fans are high on Gustafsson but he's no where near a top 10 goalie prospect yet. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

StrongIslanders90 12-27-2012 05:39 PM

Poulin and/or Nilsson in the top 15???

Doesn't belong on a top 10 goalie prospect list imo.

ErikKarlsson 12-27-2012 06:09 PM

Lehner is a big goalie that is very talented and has put up

.935svp in 5 NHL games during call ups last season
.943svp in 16 AHL games this season
Won the memorial cup as a 19 year old rookie in the AHL with a .939svp in 19 games and won 3 game 7s.

All the while being touted as a very good prospect by every reputable prospect site and somehow you just don't "see it". I have a question for you buddy. How many times have you actually watched Lehner played in the NHL or AHL?

LeHabsMan 12-27-2012 06:25 PM

Good list. I would change a few things but it is just my opinion.

1. Jacob Markstrom
2. Andrey Vasilevski
3. Robin Lehner
4. John Gibson
5. Petr Mrazek
6. Malcolm Subban
7. Matt Hackett
8. Jack Campbell
9. Jordan Binnington
10. Ben Bishop
HM: Jake Allen, Mark Visentin and Eddie Lack

Top 15 isn't out of the question; he's probably battling with 5-7 guys for the next 5 spots.

Robin Lehner:
21 years old
6 ft 4

2010-11 AHL Playoff Stats:
GP:19 GAA: 2.10 SV%: 0.939 W:14 L:4 and SO: 3

2012-13 AHL Stats:
GP:16 GAA: 1.93 SV%: 0.943 W:10 L:4 SOL:1 and SO:1

Calder Cup winner as a rookie
Calder Cup MVP only 2 other goalies have achieved that at 19 years old in the AHL (Price and Roy)

2011-2012 NHL Stats:
GP:5 GAA: 2.01 SV%: 0.935 W:3 L:2 and SO: 1

And the guy even knows how to fight for christ shake..

I hate ranking goalie prospects, extremely hard to judge.

Devils1029 12-27-2012 08:21 PM

Throwing Scott Wedgewood's name into the bottom half of this list....he won out the starter spot over Visentin on the Canadian WJC team last year, has been pretty solid in the CHL for his first year as a pro and will have he room to step into the NJ lineup in 2-3 years.

ReginKarlssonLehner 12-27-2012 09:37 PM

Haha, I never seen this thread.

Excellent list by OP. Can't agree more. That guy who has Lehner at 8th hasn't watch a single one of those goalies play outside of a couple WJC games, I bet.

sabresfan129103 12-27-2012 10:32 PM

Has Campbell played as poorly as his stats indicate? He can't even lock down the starting position in the AHL.

Poulin was borderline for me, in my top 15

Am I missing something? A bunch of pissed off sens fans complaining about Lehner bu I have him at the top of my list?

Agreed. Its funny looking at the draft position of those guys. Outside of bonafide top 5 talents, a first round goalie is a wild card it seems.

Yup, he hasnt been good and has even seen a psychiatrist about his shot confidence. I dont really think much of him

What I dislike is ranking goalers in juniors and AHL in the same category.

No, your list is bang on imo, there was a troll earlier but someone must have cleaned up that mess.

Well, obviously that's where it gets tough, and it's where stat monglers find there limitations, but it needs to be done. It's a hell of a task, and it requires people to watch the individuals play a significant amount of time, and I wouldn't trust the average HF user to have done that, but it's possible. And if one would want to help his own franchise even hypothecially, it would be necessary. /short rant. :)

I like this list, but I would swap out Vistentin and Bishop. I watched Bishop play for 4 years ( I went to UNH.. hated Bishop, and hated Regan too. Go Petreziak!!) and for his size Bishop did not impress me. Then again I played club behind these guys so its only my opinion.

It's not him, it's our coach.

Hahaha, when? Last year? When his team was absolutely atrocious and their defenders couldn't tell the difference between the opponent's nets and theirs?
