Going to be hard to get up early on a Saturday for this one.

Was just coming to post this.

It'll be fun watching this game. Either a lot of nice goals from Russia or a hard fought game from Germany. Can't go wrong either way, IMO.

Gonna be a pretty boring day at this tournament I think. Both games will more than likely be over by the end of the 1st. At least Grigerenko and Kucherov will likely put up some points for my hockey pool anyway

I think Russia will win confidently, but I don't really see them running up the score easily like US and Canada did, since the Russian team is defense first mindset.

Something like a 4-1; 5-2 is likely

The hope is that Yakupov gets a taste for goals in this game, like a shark for blood to get his appetite back on track

True but they won't have much to defend and should have possession most of the game.

Russia really proved me wrong against USA. Is Yakupov going to get on track? I can see his explosiveness but he seems to refuse to pass or has tunnel vision. Grigorenko and Kucherov have had great chemistry, and how good was Nichushkin/how good is he going to be? Wow! Anyway Russia 7 Germany 0

He really needs to get back on track if Russia is to win gold, they need him at his best.

Hopefully Germany is well rested, they were terrible against the US when they were tired. Russia still dominates

at wjc18 they beat us but today we win 4 : 2:p:

Earlier this morning I read that Sigaryov will not play against Germany due to injury.

The main thing is to gain more cohesion on the lines against a weakened opponent and not to pick up any stupid habits.

Nail needs to get going, a big night against Germany would probably do the trick.

Funnily enough that team that lost to Germany at the Under 18 World Championships this year had 5 players from the WJC roster (Mironov, Slepyshev, Nichushkin, Zharkov, Vasilevski) :laugh: Also included two guys who were cut days before the WJC (Zadorov, Yakimov).

At least they beat Germany 4-1 in the match for 5th :laugh:

I'd like to see Germany steal this one from the Russians. I'd also like to see Nail Yakupov continue to be shut down, not that it's been hard to do as of late.

He will come good in the tournament, Kuznetsov was pointless in four of Russia's first 5 games at the WJC last year (Although he got 9 points in the one game he got points), copped a lot of stick for it and then in the Semi Final against Canada he got a hatrick and an assist :laugh:

That was a very dumb injury that Sigaryov got on a forced rush that he clearly over skated and crashed into the net. At least Kosov was blocking a shot with his injury, Sig has to be more careful as teams #1 center man than to take crazy suicide runs into the net.

I also remember Tarasenko having a very average WJC (2011) in the beginning, then scoring the tying goal in the gold medal game.

They should try Grigorenko with Yakupov in this game. The top line just doesn't have much chemistry right now with the way it is.

yakupov isnt kuznetsov

Obviously not, but I expect Yakupov to lead the team in the knockout round similar to what Kuznetsov did in WJC 2011 and 2012 and to a lesser extent Tarasenko. It would be strange if he just has a quiet tournament.

He has been quiet poor so far. I think the funniest moment last night was at one stage in the third period for about 5-6 seconds Russia had four men on the ice, Yakupov did not realize it was his shift until the crowd began screaming where is the 5th player. Russia pinned in their own zone with four players and Yakupov watching on from the bench :laugh::laugh:
