I doubt it, for two reasons:

1) There are still issues to be worked out, and I don't think they can be entirely resolved tonight unless one side says the hell with it and caves.

2) The last time we even thought a deal was in sight, we went through five threads in about three hours.

Even if it ends tonight, there will be like 3 more threads just from people rejoicing/*****ing at one of the two sides/claiming they don't care and won't watch hockey again.

ColePens 01-02-2013 03:50 PM

When it gets close... we will run through two threads so quickly before we get official word.

Love you Spice Girls!

XL baby. Bring out dat podium and announce that hockey is back.

NYRFAN218 01-02-2013 03:50 PM

The Lavoie article did have this as highlighted in the last thread...

Quote:

Owners and players have the same goal now: they absolutely want to reach an agreement before midnight tonight, so that the executive committee of the NHLPA decides to dissolve the union denial
But later on in it it has this...

Quote:

It is possible that the NHLPA does not put his threat into execution tonight if negotiations are well advanced. One way or another, the NHLPA may require another vote to dissolve, if ever there is no agreement with the NHL .
Could just be a bad translation.

I hate it when reporters speculate

Frodo Baggins 01-02-2013 03:50 PM

I have a feeling this will drag to the last minute :/

T-Funk 01-02-2013 03:50 PM

Bring out two podiums.

TwoForRoughing 01-02-2013 03:51 PM

Take that first sentence in RL's article with a grain of salt. He did go on to say that there's still a lot of work to do.

Personally, I don't see an agreement being reached for another week or so. But hey, that's a hell of a lot better than having no season at all.

Im gonna have to say no. Remember about 4 weeks ago when twitter started blowing up? So did this thread (well, it's ancestor). Good or bad news, this thread will blow up

Cautious...optimism

Karl with a C 01-02-2013 03:52 PM

So where are we at exactly right now that's confirmed? The NHLPA countered and the NHL is reviewing, with tentative plans to meet again at 8pm? Is that all right?

MISC* 01-02-2013 03:52 PM

I want to see Bettman and Fehr hug if they announce a new CBA.

CpatainCanuck 01-02-2013 03:52 PM

In my opinion the best case scenario is an agreement signed around the 10th of January...so no this will not be the last lockout thread.

TCsmyth 01-02-2013 03:52 PM

Really not trying to burst anybody's bubble here (really, I think the deal gets done)...but to say that pensions are not a "big issue" may not be necessarily true.

Let's not forget that many businesses and entities from the auto industry to states and municipalities have gotten themselves into major trouble with Defined Benefit pension plans that simply do not make sense in changing times.

Not being a naysayer...just saying it may not be a small issue (he ducks behind his computer!)

QFT. That said, I'm all for it. Gogogogo agreement pretty please!

Propriétaires et joueurs ont le même objectif présentement: ils veulent absolument en arriver à une entente avant minuit ce soir, afin d’éviter que le comité exécutif de l’AJLNH décide de dissoudre le syndicat par déni

This was somewhat misquoted before (hence why teachers say don't use google translate). Roughly translated is that "owners and player have the same objective, to reach an agreement before midnight tonight to avoid having the nhlpa committee decide to disclaim interest".
