P. Bergeron or Getzlaf?

Patrice Bergeron and Ryan Getzlaf are two completely different hockey players. If hypothetically given the choice, which would you rather have on your team?

bleedblue1223 01-04-2013 02:51 PM

Bergeron on the Blues. Good luck to the rest of the league scoring on us.

megajake 01-04-2013 02:52 PM

Getzlaf is the superior player. Kovy-Getz :O

Machinehead 01-04-2013 03:03 PM

I'd take Bergeron considering the ridiculous contract Getzlaf is going to get.

Bergeron won't come cheap either but Getzlaf's gonna be gold-plated on the open market.

Bergeron isn't a free agent until the 2014-2015 Season.

Give me Getzlaf. He's an absolute monster when he's on his game. He just needs to stay healthy and motivated.

I'd take a chance on him.

Wow. You are right; I must have read that information incorrectly from somewhere. I edited the post. The question should now suffice.

Homer vote here but I'd take Bergeron. Since 09-10 he's been a force both offensively and defensively. Selke winner, Cup winner. If not for Thomas winning the Conn Smythe chances are he would have taken that too. I like Getzlaf a lot but having watched Bergeron play for many seasons now, he has evolved into an absolute nightmare for the opposing team.

MessierII 01-04-2013 04:10 PM

Love Bergeron but I don't see how you could take him over a big right shot top center who's been among the league leaders offensively in the past. Getzlaf had a bad year but c'mon. Bergeron is awesome but even with his Selke caliber D game Getzy is still better.

Sasso09 01-04-2013 04:14 PM

I love Bergy but these two guys are in different classes

Getzlaf >> Bergeron

HockeyThoughts 01-04-2013 04:18 PM

Getzlaf easily.

Gritzky98 01-04-2013 04:21 PM

Getzlaf is clearly on a higher level

Elvs 01-04-2013 04:24 PM

Bergeron last season, but Getzlaf so many years before that so gotta go with him.

The Red Line 01-04-2013 04:29 PM

Getzlaf and its not close for me.

Benny FTW 01-04-2013 04:33 PM

Getzlaf but its close.

Phion Keneuf 01-04-2013 04:34 PM

Getzlaf.

Dellstrom 01-04-2013 06:26 PM

Bergeron is my favorite player, maybe ever, but I'd have to go with Getzlaf..

He had an off year, but there's no age difference, and when he's on his game, he's one of the most dominant players in the game. It's pretty close, though.

eklunds source 01-04-2013 06:35 PM

Getzlaf.

He didn't have an off-year last year (his puck possession rates were virtually identical), he just met some hot goaltenders and some bad luck..

Confound 01-04-2013 08:08 PM

Bergeron and it's close, I think Getzlaf is pretty overrated anyway.

MessierII 01-04-2013 09:46 PM

Bergeron is a excellent second line center but if he's your top guy your not going far in the playoffs unless your crazy deep. Getzlaf is a true top center. He's won a cup too so there's no debate there.

Bergeron was top 15 in center scoring this year and won the Selke, to say that's only 2nd line center material is pretty ridiculous.

There's also the fact that he was won on damned near every level, the guy has a ridiculous trophy case.

TAnnala 01-04-2013 09:58 PM

Getzlaf, when he is playing like it, is top-5 center in the show. I would take him.

He's never going to get you 80-90 points though. Guys who can put up those kind of numbers are still the rarest commodity in the league. Let alone ones that play center and are 6'4" 225. Way too rare of a skill set to pass up.

Only 6 centers scored 80+ points last season, that's pretty strict criteria.

None of the last 3 Cup winners had a center who scored 80+ points.

Porn* 01-04-2013 10:30 PM

I'd be happy with either of them on the Leafs. I'd probably lean towards Getzlaf though only because he's more offensive minded and physical.
