Kopitar injures right knee/2-3 weeks IR

Kopi hurt his right knee and is expected to miss perhaps 3 weeks.

http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/0...ying-overseas/

Pays to have 2 top line centers on your second line. Richards and Carter should be able to hold the helm until Kopi is back, given a 1/18 start (if the CBA is settled this week) he'd miss about 2 weeks, which might be 5-7 games.

This team has enough top end talent to establish and maintain a solid lead, as they showed the world in April and May

Better now than late April or may...Kopitar is one very special player and without him the playoffs would be a very dark place.

Good job Kopitar way to go down when the season might be starting.

Ziggy Stardust 01-05-2013 02:55 PM

That's the chance they all take when they sign in another league. As a Flyers fan, I was pissed as hell when Giroux and Briere both went to Germany. It wasn't like they were down to their last box of macaroni and cheese. Both of them are hurt. Just lucky it wasn't worse as in surgery or out for the season.

Cruel11 01-05-2013 02:58 PM

Wouldnt't be a kings season without a top player missing the beginning of the season

Telos 01-05-2013 02:59 PM

Wow, we might have a season now that this has happened :P It doesn't sound too grim though. Should be back up and running in no time. Hopefully this is the last of them. Martinez and Kopitar is enough for the overseas injuries of the year...

Ron 01-05-2013 03:00 PM

While this is certainly not good news, Telos is right. It's gonna be only one month, we can certainly deal with him being out only one month, that's like only 1/6 th of the season...

...Oh, wait.

Speaking of martinez, he just signed to play hockey for his home town in Texas. Guess the concussion effects have gone away.

Sprained knee? Dislocated? Bruised? What is it?

ShattStar03 01-05-2013 03:46 PM

Damn, Kopi has the worst luck in getting injured at the most horrible times.

Tried to find some more info, only thing that might be worth noting is that he did skate one more shift after taking the hit.

Helene Elliott ‏@helenenothelen
Spoke to Anze Kopitar's agent, Pat Brisson. He said Kopitar's knee injury "is nothing to be alarmed with." Said Kopitar is in good spirits

Helene Elliott ‏@helenenothelen
Brisson said more will be known about Kopitar's knee after tests are done in next few days but Kopitar doesn't think it's serious.

Kopi takes January off every year anyway-- he always comes back strong in Feb.

Edit. Nvm

redcard 01-05-2013 07:47 PM

Is it 2-3 weeks before he plays again in Europe, or 2-3 weeks period?

Players play through minor injuries all the time in the NHL, but I don't think any of them would play through an injury right now with the season possibly starting up soon. This could very well be an injury that Kopi wouldn't think twice about playing through if it was the NHL, but figures he might as well rest it while he can.

That's actually a good point, but regardless of what they meant, the season is 2 weeks away (if at all).

Good one

Ron 01-06-2013 01:37 AM

Let's assume we do have a season, because if we don't, this apparently minor injury is not a factor.

So if we do have a season that's 2 weeks from beginning anyway he misses a minimum amount of games.

That's good news for our title defense.
