The Russians aren't coming! (UPD: McKenzie says KHL pressuring players to stay)

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Just a low rumble for now, but there are whispers KHL teams may be offering "inducements" to get RUS stars to stay and not return to NHL.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
In last 24 hours, multiple sources told me NHL teams would do well to have roll call because it's possible a RUS player or two may not show.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Two things to keep in mind: 1. Many RUS stars publicly stated earlier this season they might stay the entire the year in the KHL.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
2. NHL-KHL have post-Radulov pact to honor contracts. That said, been suggested to me this entire issue could heat up again. We'll see.

CCCP 01-07-2013 08:28 AM

Ovechkin, Backy and Komarov are already on their way.

S3rkie 01-07-2013 08:28 AM

Doubt any of them stay, most of the quotes from players seemed like threats just for the negotiation process. How many of the players would want to take the risk of them not being able to play in the olympics.

LeeIFBB 01-07-2013 08:29 AM

I'm sure it will all be resolved in an above board manner.

Stars is questionable. But second liners and young guys who project to be stars (the Morozovs and Radulovs), I could see them staying with a good thing, getting more playing time and more money. I think the Kovalchuks and Ovechkins want the prestige of dominating the highest league in the world.

Yup this is pretty much how I"m thinking.

I'd be looking at guys like Tarasenko who were supposed to be coming over, and I'd bet that the KHL is making a big pitch to keep them at least for the rest of the season

Komarov is Finnish, thank you very much.

Kshahdoo 01-07-2013 08:40 AM

Tarasenko and Bobrovskiy will come. Kovy, i think, too. Dats and Malkin have already said they won't stay in KHL. Dats said he's gonna play a few more games though. Looks like he likes being in CSKA pretty much, so Wings should be prepared that he won't sign a new conract with them.

Ogopogo* 01-07-2013 08:40 AM

The KHL honored the agreement this year - Yakupov missed games waiting for his transfer card. Everything should be fine.

GM17* 01-07-2013 08:40 AM

If this happens Devils draft MacKinnon woo

I know but the intention was to include all players who played in the NHL but are currently in the KHL. Hopefully he'll Finnish soon though...

Wingsfan2965* 01-07-2013 08:45 AM

It makes me laugh that the KHL struggles so hard to be relevant in the hockey world.

Ovechkin's coming back, Datsyuk's coming back, I would assume Malkin is coming back, so honestly, does anybody really care?

njdevil26 01-07-2013 08:47 AM

Kovalchuk bought a plot of land in North Jersey for four million dollars... then build a RIDICULOUS house on it. His kids go to school here and his family lives here. I'm not worried about him coming back.

What the hell is McKenzie trying to stir up. Every Russian who has been asked said that they are going back.

Phion Keneuf 01-07-2013 09:13 AM

Hope Kule and Grabo come back asap

General Granny* 01-07-2013 09:18 AM

pasha stated he liked the khl but he missed detroit big time. he also said in previous interviews that he won't finish his career in detroit but will likely sign a 1-2 yr contract after this current one. after that he'll finish in the motherland
