Who finishes with more points?

Who finishes the season with more points Oilers or Islanders? Why?

Oilers, the Isles play in the toughest division in hockey and the Oilers are probably better anyway. If Strome is on the 2nd line and has a good year, it could be different because they could have 2 good scoring lines with a good shutdown 3rd line Grabner-Nielsen-Ullstrom.

Last year the Isles were 8-13-3 vs the Atlantic.

The Oilers were 8-11-5 vs the NW.

Oilers

Kezia 01-07-2013 11:28 AM

Islanders.

InjuredChoker 01-07-2013 02:52 PM

Heart says Isles, brain Oilers.

So Oilers it is.

Dellstrom 01-07-2013 03:39 PM

Islanders are going to get their lunch money taken from them by their division.

bp spec 01-07-2013 05:30 PM

Oilers. The Atlantic is very tough.

WangMustGo 01-07-2013 05:35 PM

Probably the Oilers, I think they both finish within 5 points of each other though.

The Atlantic is going to be like an episode of Oz this season. The Oilers will not nearly have as difficult of competition.

bruinsfan46 01-07-2013 07:01 PM

The Islanders have beat the Oilers in the standing three straight years just like every other team in the league except Columbus so I have to pick New York. This one will be very close in the standings I think.

I think it'll be the Oilers. They've actually been making huge strides and were probably unlucky to finish so poorly last year. I think Krueger is going to be a massive boost to the Oilers (and be more important than Schultz/Yakupov for this upcoming season).

The question is about the upcoming season, not the past three.

Thanks, clearly I didn't understand the question. I would say the last three seasons provide some insight into this season, that was my point. I'm of the school that I'll start believing in the Oilers winning hockey games, when they actually start winning hockey games. Some year I may end up being really wrong about them but for now I'm predicting 29th overall again this season. Now I predict 28th for the Islanders which is why I think it's close.

Both have a lot of young talent but not the results yet with their current cores. It's a pretty good poll and I see why people are taking either team. Either team could realistically break out any year and make the playoffs. It's hard thing to predict when.

both are bad but Islanders are worse. far far worse.

Minimalist* 01-07-2013 10:57 PM

Getting Shultz was huge for the Oilers, and Yak rounds out their top 6 nicely. Not to mention that their top line is due to break out and dominate any time now.

But they're in the better conference, and their D/checking lines and goaltending is still weak. Not to mention that they're still a little green. I can't see them finishing anywhere over 10th in the West.

That said, I still take them over the Isles.

I'm very much interest to see what the Oilers can do in a short season. Forwards are in place as we all know. I'm expecting a decent year from Dubnyk. Ryan Whitney and Nick Schultz are keys as they need to provide the steady defensive presence.

Krishna 01-08-2013 02:10 AM

Islanders but not by much

SoftEuro4thLiner 01-08-2013 06:42 AM

Oilers, seeing as they played the first few games last season there's a small chance they could even squeeze into the playoffs. Islanders play in the toughest division in hockey.

Oilers

Oilers

Le Magnifique 66 01-08-2013 08:37 AM

Edmonton. I think they're going to finally compete for a playoff spot

ponokanocker 01-08-2013 03:09 PM

Oilers. I think they will come out of the gate much better than most for a couple reasons. 1. The kids have been playing together in the AHL building chemistry. 2. A lot of their players have been playing competitive hockey this year and so are in game shape.

Devils Trap 01-08-2013 06:41 PM

Yes the Islanders are in a tough division but they are getting better . They arent just another team in the Atlantic. They play every team though.

I got the Isles in this one
