Columbus-Montreal

To Montreal:
Brassard, S. Mason, David Savard

To Columbus:
Plekanec, Budaj

Saw on the CBJ board that someone thought the three could make a decent package put together as trade bait, not sure any of them end up leaving Columbus but I'm sure the Blue Jackets would love to exchange some forward depth for a more proven talent. Also many would love to see Mason leave and who knows maybe Budaj would perform well here. I'm not as down on Savard as many of my fellow fans but he is expendable with all the newfound d depth we have.

If the value isn't there maybe change Savard to Erixon or add a pick or two.

Montreal downgrades their top 6 to upgrade their backup position, which is kind of the opposite of what they should be going for. Montreal doesn't have a lot of use for Mason, and Savard while nice, isn't exactly a can't-miss prospect. The only thing Montreal is interested in here would be Brassard because they need to bolster their top 6. Since that doesn't happen in this trade and the + isn't all that enticing, I think the Habs pass.

Crisp Breakout 01-08-2013 12:50 PM

That'd be a great deal for CBJ, but I can't imagine Montreal would be excited about it.

Captain Smurf 01-08-2013 01:11 PM

I think there is a basis for a deal there, but it needs to be tweaked. For one, mason is a pure cap dump from montreals POV. Brassard would be neccassary downgrade for Montreal in this deal, but they'd need to get a better prospect than Savard back to make the deal at all palatable.

EveryDay 01-08-2013 01:24 PM

I don't want Mason or Savard as part of the deal.....

If you want Plekanec it has to be for one or some package

Mtl would be interested in Dubinski-Foligno-Johanssen-Umberger-1st 2013-Jenner

Frozenice 01-08-2013 01:40 PM

On your team, John Moore seems to be the odd man out and someone I'd be more interested in then Savard. Also, maybe throw in Chaput instead of Mason.

Plus we have Diaz, Weber, Dietz, Thrower and Ellis who would be fighting with Savard for 2 spots and I'm not sure Savard will ever be better/more ready enough to take a roster spot or enough of an improvement to make it worthwhile.

What's Plekanec's NTC limits and would he waive it to go to Columbus is probably the most important question.

I'm pretty sure he meant some combination of those, not all of them. :)

Habsawce 01-08-2013 01:57 PM

I'd do Jenner + 1st 2013 for Plekanec IF (big IF) Galchenyuk is ready to make the jump.

I'd take a look at some of their defense propspects, but Jenner/Johansen are the ones I'd give up Plekanec for, although CLB would have to add.

Are you saying that you would'n trade any of theses players for Tomas Plekanec?

You know he would immediately be your best offensive player?

We've got Price, who's arguably a top 5, or easily top 10 goalie in the league. He's fairly young and has huge potential. He's got easily top 5 value for goaltenders; I'd only have Quick ahead of him, due to contracts, skill, potential, age, etc.

Yeah the Mason/Budaj swap wasn't really meant to be the major part of the deal, just thought it would even up the salary swap a bit and maybe provide a backup for Montreal for more than one season.

As I pointed out in the OP, Tim Erixon and potentially John Moore could be included instead of David Savard. The three of them probably all hold similar value, but John Moore's skillset better fits the Blue Jacket's needs going forward with all the puckmovers we have.

I don't see Jenner or Johansen being moved for quite a while though. While I was saying we have too much depth up front and not enough first line talent, I don't see how moving our two biggest forward prospects would be more beneficial than moving prospects from an area of strength who at least in Jenner's case, hold similar value.

And to everybody doubting Savard's potential to be an effective NHL defenseman, he more than held his own in that position last season and currently has more points in the AHL than any Hamilton Bulldog player.....

I would accept something like 1st 2013 + Foligno/Dubinski for Plekanec + 2nd, would you?

The first round pick is a non-starter unless you're talking about NYR or LA's.

If its the 1st from NYR or LA i would take out the second from MTL.

Dubinski/Foligno + 1st NYR for Plekanec?

I'd much rather have one of the 2 blue chippers than Dubinski or Foligno. We have enough depth at centre for this season going forward to absorb the loss of Plekanec if Galchenyuk or Eller step up.

Even if he'd waive for Ohio, I would hold out for the summer, just to see how Eller (already a Pleks lite) does and if he is capable of taking on a similar defensive style role and possibly put up some better offensive numbers.

I'd be more open to moving DD right now instead (but not by alot)

slightlystewpid420 01-08-2013 03:54 PM

You guys are crazy. Mason could be moved, and maybe savard. But any of - Erixon, Moore, Johansen, Jenner, ANY of the 3 1sts, Murray, Dubi, Foligno, Anisimov are definitely untouchable. Columbus brass are so high on all of our younger kids and even are newly acquired players. And ESPECIALLY for Plekanec, IMO it would take a lot more than an aging goaltender and a mediocre forward to give up our future for. JD is not about to move any of his younger kids. And with Dubi and foligno JUST getting into columbus, they will not be moved for at least a season. CBJ is done trading for awhile, unless a trade comes along that they cant afford to miss, and this well..this isnt one of them.

Plekanec would instantly be your best player up front and is one of the premiere PK specialists in the league. What does that say about Columbus going forward if a mediocre forward is better than what you have?

Jenner has already been told hes coming to camp and if he makes the team will be our PK guy to go with foligno.

Dubi was a 50-60pt player on a 2nd-3rd line role. Now he has a chance to be a top line guy. Same with Foligno. Atkinson will be a 20-30 goal player with possibly just as many assists. Johansen will stay in the AHL for another season for seasoning. This team was just assembled, so to think that CBJ would disassemble them without a single game played would be crazy. Also JD is so excited about having 3 picks in the 1st rd, that right there is columbus' savior. Hes not going to move those picks until we know the order of those picks, and even then hes going to want a kings ransom, this is a very very deep draft.

I think that's in the ballpark.

v3rs3 01-08-2013 04:05 PM

Do not want. Pleks doesn't fit the age group of our young core. He'll be 35+ or out of the league by the time most of our guys start hitting their prime. Won't help us in the least.

ANNND this.

JD isn't going to move any pieces this year. Thanks, but no thanks.
