So apparently Nonis agreed with a deal of Luongo for something.

And the same source thats telling us this, says that something was Kadri + Gardiner.

Is this enough evidence that it was about Luongo? Edit: As the breaking point. One factor of many, but the final straw. Not saying it is the sole reason.

Moore Money 01-09-2013 03:04 PM

remember when Travis D'arnaud was untouchable? Rogers wants to make an impact move much like the Jays did.

Gardiner is gone.

Aqualung 01-09-2013 03:05 PM

I don't think Burke was fired just because of Luongo.

Luongo is likely a smaller factor, and that his likely friction with ownership and record probably played a larger role.

Scottrockztheworld* 01-09-2013 03:06 PM

darren dreger already trying to do heavy lifting for his relative Nonis.

Multiple others report Gardiner & Kadri, he says Kadri & Bozak.

How long till darren dreger gets a job with the leafs? :sarcasm:

I agree, and I still don't think TML will even get him.

Yep. The timing is odd, but the new MLSE board members aren't really hockey people.

Dreger is now going to be looked as a major source for the Maple Leafs. He's going to get the insight, just like he did here when Nonis was GM of VAN.

Vankiller Whale 01-09-2013 03:08 PM

If it was just that they hated him, then why would they keep him as a senior advisor? I think that them keeping him on means that while they still respect him as a GM, an urgent decision that had to be made could not be left up to him.(i.e Luongo)

JuniorNelson 01-09-2013 03:09 PM

Toronto is still just one of the teams that has a serious need in net. Nonis was notoriously cautious at the deadline. I think Gillis is best off waiting to see how Schnieder plays and allow the market to evolve during actual play.

Kadri and Gardiner DO sound like Gillis players.

Jacob8hockey* 01-09-2013 03:10 PM

Dreger just brought up Kadri + Bozak + 2nd. Did he say it was a deal? no. Said it was the rumour but the way he said it was odd for him.

Also Nonis said the can't discuss pending trades in the Press Conferance. Could have just been nervous or not fully thinking but it also could be that a deal is in place.

I'm not against getting Luongo but come on. How long do we have to suffer through destroying the future in Toronto?

The Bored Man 01-09-2013 03:11 PM

Isn't it closer to Bobby Lu Part 200? :)

He's corporate advisor, not hockey advisor...

Inverted 01-09-2013 03:12 PM

If Burke was fired just because he didn't trade for Lu for Gardiner and Kadri then I think it was very unfair to him. I really wouldn't had mind Kadri being part of the trade especially after the way hes been handled by the Leafs. But Gardiner is a promising prospect and a big part of the Leafs blue line with Schenn traded and Reilly still a few years away from having an impact on the team, Burke was right in is own way not to do such a trade.

How are you suffering if Luongo makes you a playoff team for the next 5 years? Do people honestly think Gardiner would have a bigger impact than Luongo going forward?

Trade from a position of strength to serious weakness...helps your team in a big way. It sucks to pay fair value for anything in this world, but if it improves your team I don`t think many of you will be complaining after the fact.

If some of the owners of a business doesn't like an employee, sometimes they wait for a reason, or a catalyst, to get rid of him. It may not be the reason they fire the employee, but it's all the excuse they need to convince the other owners to get rid of somebody.

nowhereman 01-09-2013 03:14 PM

Two summers ago, the Flyers got Schenn, Simmonds, and a 2nd for Mike Richards, a 60+ point second/low-end first line center. Now, obviously, centers fetch a bit more on the market but it's not completely ludicrous that Vancouver could grab a young player like Gardiner, for a top five goaltender who still got a lot of game left in him.

Luongo can get TO into the playoffs. Gardiner can't.

archangel archangel 01-09-2013 03:14 PM

My prediction is Burke was ordered to trade for Luongo and refused to give what the canucks wanted and he paid the price for it.

marty111 01-09-2013 03:15 PM

If this Gardiner + Kadri rumour turns out to be true. I'm done as a Leafs fan.

Management stepping in and pretending they know anything about hockey and forcing player decisions is despicable.

Done. Over. Burning my jersey's. **** hockey.

I'd do this. I hope Dregs is right....Gardiner...nope.

Apparently its because he still has 2 years left on the deal and they wanted to avoid paying a severance package. I still believe Burke was canned because Rogers/Bell came in and said, "we want to win now, acquire Luongo at all cost" and Burke said, "**** no, not at the price required to pay". MLSE now has their yes man, no matter how much the media will say otherwise. Welcome to Vancouver, Jake Gardiner

The definition of conjecture.
