McKenzie broke the news via Twitter just prior to Brian Burke's noon press conference on Saturday. He stated that the deal is likely to be worth a shade over $1 million.

Not confirmed yet.

Kessely Snipes 01-12-2013 11:26 AM

Shade over a million sounds good to me, let him prove himself.

Smif 01-12-2013 11:26 AM

Beauty...oh, wait, what?

Ruski 01-12-2013 11:27 AM

just over a million? Thought he would demand more...good signing.

Might be an attractive trade piece.

Just waiting for the "Memorandum of Understanding" between NHL and NHLPA to be signed. Only then can it be legally finalized.

He's an RFA and McKenzie is breaking the story. Contract is agreed upon, it's pretty much in stone.

blueNwhite89 01-12-2013 11:29 AM

Sounds good to me. Let's see what he can do.

sorry it cut out for me.. did he say they had a contract for someone else too ?

Ruki 01-12-2013 11:30 AM

I like this deal, gives him a chance to prove himself and get a better contract.

Sounds and looks so weird..

TMLeafer 01-12-2013 11:34 AM

That's a very good cap hit.

Felstead 01-12-2013 11:36 AM

About time to be honest. He got the shaft and for some od reason burke just did not want this guy to play.

Good for him, hes been a leaf fan all his life and he just wants to play the game. The fact that he is "signing" for such a reasonable price shows how much he wants to be a leaf.

If you ask me, smells like a buyout of Komisarek. Good riddance to him if thats what happens

81snipe 01-12-2013 11:40 AM

Hope Franson plays well enough to solidify a spot in the line-up. Personally think he has some good potential yet.

p.l.f. 01-12-2013 11:40 AM

perfect

iArts 01-12-2013 11:42 AM

Franson for 1 mi. is great. For wherever he ends up.

Rockinz 01-12-2013 11:43 AM

nice!

He would still be a RFA next year right?

trickster 01-12-2013 11:44 AM

Franson on a 1Mil, 1 year deal makes him exceptional value - especially in trade...

mapleleaf979 01-12-2013 11:44 AM

I like Franson, deadly shot. Good PP asset.

Kyle Doobas* 01-12-2013 11:50 AM

I'm not a huge fan, but he probably did deserve a better shot than he was given last season. Hopefully he can find a way to become a regular contributor.

Used terribly by Wilson IMO.

If carlyle puts in a defensive system similar to what they had in nsh look for franson to excel

Johny Drama 01-12-2013 11:52 AM

Gunnarrson makes 1.35, so imagine Franson will be in that range

The coach (coaches) decides who plays not the GM.

There should be plenty of playing time available to anyone who earns it this year, especially with Gardiner out. Let's hope he takes advantage.
