Training Camp 2013!

Now the lockout is officially over, when does training camp officially start? Tomorrow.

Have they released the camp roster?

UsernameWasTaken 01-13-2013 08:57 AM

they have released the training camp roster. no big surprises - although, i was surprised to see stanton invited. saad's up. also, pirri's up...but beach isn't. neither is hayes. i thought they might want to have a look at beach...apparently not.

Apparently Smith is set to have wrist surgery, probably the only reason he isn't there.

I agree with not inviting Beach, hes been terrible this year.
Hayes deserved a try-out I think, just as much as Saad has.

Saad has 3 more points, in 7 less games and Hayes only has 4 points in his last 17 games played. In his last 17 games, Saad has 11 points.

Saad obviously got hot at the right time, having 2 great games on nights when alot of Blackhawks brass were in the stands.. but there's no doubt that Saad's been better than Hayes in the AHL this year. In fairness to Hayes though, he's been moved around from wing to centre alot this year.

Before his 2 game explosion, Hayes was out-scoring Saad. I'm not trying to knock down Saad, I'm just saying Hayes has earned the right to a tryout.

If Saad got called up, Morin should be called up as well.

There are alot of guys in Rockford that deserve a chance to tryout.. but there's no point bringing up most of the team when there's only 1-2 forward spots to be won.

Saad's the most well-rounded forward prospect Chicago has.

Hawkaholic 01-13-2013 09:31 AM

I still don't think hes ready for the NHL, even if he is the best prospect we have.

Yup, I agree, He has struggle a lot for Rockford until his last two games. Beach still has as many goals(8). Morin on the other hand has been more consistent and more physical.

No Olesz on the training camp roster, must be giving him the Redden/Gomez treatment.

I don't get why they don't give him three games in the bottom-six to show any sort of promise instead of assuming he is going to do an awful job and just pay him to sit home. Honestly, my bet would be that he'd do terrible, but if you're paying the guy over $3 million, give him a couple games. We can spare a guy like Mayers for a couple games.

ChiGuySez 01-13-2013 10:13 AM

I was going to mention Olesz.

Glad to see Stanton get a look. Probably the best defensive 7th man option at this point. If Leddy gets assigned to Rockford, he would be the offensive option for dman but Stanton if they want a 3rd pairing shut down guy.

I really don't think Leddy will play in Rockford. He's a top-four (gulp) defenseman on this team and is actually "fresh" compared to most of the guys that will be suiting up Saturday.

But Q, like Kruger before him, will gift him a spot regardless, me thinks.

Why do people keep saying/mentioning that? It's not in the realm of possibility. Leddy's far more likely to be traded than sent to Rockford.

First - Saad came into camp last year and earned a spot on the team, he can do it again. He's been great in Rockford over the past 3 games and he's more than talented and polished enough to play in the NHL. The question with Saad will be consistency. If he can be consistent, he should be in the NHL and he will contribute.

Second - Kruger started last year the 4th line. The 4th line. Hardly a gift-wrapped spot. You make it sound like Kruger just showed up, played like ****, and was the team's 2nd line centre out of camp. Kruger made the team last year as the 4th line centre and as a PKer.

I know. I don't get why people think he's being sent to the AHL...it's not going to happen. i think he'll probably end up on the second pairing on the big club.

Cullksinikers 01-13-2013 10:30 AM

I liked Bolland on our third line because of the fact he is always great in his own end and chips in a respectable amount of offense. I think Kruger is responsible in his own end, but he is not as scrappy and good as Bolland and is nowhere near as offensively capable. That's why I believe we still need to pursue a top-six center.

.

I agree and this should pertain to every RFD callup that was invited to camp. Granted the lack of a single exhibition game will make it difficult for a player like Pirri to prove much ... and I was looking forward to Ben Smith and Jayes getting a shot as well. Smith is injured and can't get a break it seems and why Jayes isn't invited is puzzling - indicates to me that Saad has clinched a spot before stepping on the ice in Chicago. I have nothing against him but I don't like Q's style in favoring some players and shunting others.

Blackhawkswincup 01-13-2013 11:29 AM

In regards to Hayes

No reason to have guys in camp you dont plan to have on roster

With only a week together you need your team building chemistry/etc ,, Not having guys who wont be playing with team to start year taking away practice spots and time from coaches

I heard he blew out his ACL late last year in Rockford.

UsernameWasTaken 01-13-2013 02:42 PM

according to bowman olesz didn't pass his physical - that's why he's not at camp.

also, judging by Bowman's and Q's comments, they have Bolland penciled in at 2c this year.

Also Bowman says no moves/signings coming

Stuck with this awful mess of a roster

The pessimism of Chicago fans is so laughable. 90% of the league would take our roster over theirs in a second. CAL, CLB, NYI, DAL, TOR, etc are teams with awful mess of a roster.

Well, he's not going to be like "Hey, there's a few potential deals we're looking at" or "Something's imminent" to the media.

He may be working on something, but knowing Stan, I highly doubt we'll see any noteworthy transactions until the TD nears. However, if he is working on something, he will not let anyone on.
