How much is a 1st? Buyout question.

A buyout is basically paying cash to get rid of a guy. So if a team trades a player how much salary would you eat to get a 1st?

Scott Gomez. :naughty:

You can only do up to 5 mil per season and up to 3 mil/50% on an individual player. Guessing 3.5-4 mil would get a first round pick

Vladimir Malakhov ($3.5 million) got a 1st round pick in the summer before 2006-2007, back when the cap was $44M.

Roughly the equivalent of $5.5 million under todays cap (8% of total cap) .

One thing to note was that Malakhov was suspended, so the team acquiring him didn't need to pay him salary, they just had to be responsible for his cap hit.

Not what he asked . If you could take a player on and get a first rd pick with him ,just to buy him out at the end of the year , how much would a team eat ? As an Oiler fan i would hope the team would do up to 5,000,000.00 if it could get an extra first in around the 10th spot . After all they would get that back quick if the Oilers start making the playoffs and going deep , but we need a couple more pieces to do that .

the flyers just ate bouchers salary of a million bucks. they got a 2nd rd prospect for an echl undrafted player. im predicting it turns into a near perfect inverse of restricted free agency.

It's as much the cap hit of the player as his salary. A team well under cap might not give you anything. A cap ceiling contender will be desperate.

I don't think Katz is willing to take a 5-6mil hit for a draft pick, doesn't seem like his style.

Team that is best suited for this kind of transaction is probably Toronto right now seeing as how they only have one guy who would potentially be bought out, Komisarek, who only has one year left after this year anyway.

Montreal has one they will use on Gomez, but beyond that they will have a spare to burn, same for the Rangers with Redden.

Philly has the money to do this, but they have their own contracts they need to worry about potentially buying out
